How in the hades do I get rid of the "halo" around stuff that has transparency? like hair....started a character for a pic for a friends birthday...and when I change the background to black under it...there is a grayish looking halo...like an outline around it...it sucks poo....Help!!!

I do all mine on a black background as I rarely use light backgrounds for anything anyway. Black seems easier to blend in than white.
