Saw this tonight; I liked it. It was about 1000x better than I thought it would be, before watching the previews.
Mr. Johnson really is not a bad actor at all. The young boy was okay... I think he is too stuck in his pubescent phase of life to be able to break out and play an adult-ish character. It seems that he tried to make himself look tough by looking angry, and is modulating his voice for... toughness. The girl seems to be a much better actor, but her perpetually startled expression had me on the verge of laughter throughout the whole movie, including the serious parts.
These kids are 16 and 17 years old. They look about 10.

Having grown up in the 70’s and being subjected to the absolutely horrible live-action movies Disney used to put out back then, I was hesitant to even watch this.
My husband said, ‘Race to Witch Mountain?’
‘Yeah,’ I replied. ‘I’m going to suffer through the trailer.’
That’s exactly what I expected but was pleasantly surprised. I read the blurb and thought, ‘Dwayne Johnson’, then I realized they meant ‘The Rock’. I swear, he’s better off with the nickname.

There were a few of those cameos. The reporter's name at the very beginning was Natalie Gann.

The original girl was the waitress in that bar, the original boy was the sheriff. I was all giggly when I noticed that lol.

That's what I figured. There were a few others, but I can't think of them right now. The first one I noticed was obviously the reporter I mentioned. Journey of Natty Gann was a good movie!
I'll probably watch it again at some point and maybe catch a few more.

The "new" girl WAS the same one that was in Bridge to Terabithia, wasn't it? Derek and I were debating about that...
Really liked this movie; surprised me as well! Jen and I watched it when she was well enough to keep her eyes open for more than two hours last week. :)

Darsa: Yep. Also, 'Because of Winn-Dixie' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and a bunch of other stuff.
IMDB didn't have any other cameos listed than the two original actors, and Natty Gann, but I could swear I recognized a bunch of those people at the expo. The guy who played the "rival" scientist did one of the voices for Disney's 'Chicken Little', which I never saw, and yet he looks really familiar too. Maybe I'm just buggin out.
