So here is the back story behind this novel to the best of my knowledge. Once upon a time some friends of mine wrote a book. They wrote it in high school before I knew them. Years ago when we all first started playing EQ they showed some of us the book and we were impressed by what we saw - it was in rough form. They tried to publish but were told there was no market for fantasy humor. Some of you may know of the authors - one was Priapus - the other had many EQ names. They were part of the original members of the lifebringer channel. Fast forward to after Pirates of the Caribbean success and publishers contacted them asking about the book again. A couple of years later and a few rewrites and they finished the book - and I now hold it in my hands. I just finished it.

So on to the book. I thought the book was just going to be a farce poking fun of D&D, EQ, LOTR etc style of books as a kind of tribute. The book FAR exceeded all expectations.

It is a humorous book to be sure. It does not take itself too seriously, and throws many references in that will make you giggle. However, it is not overdone like most books of this type, and it DOES have a good story. In fact I got really into the story. I would say this book has every right to take itself very seriously, but refrains from doing so. I got involved in the story, and laughed often.

Also they throw some new techniques in I have never seen in a book. Some of their scene changes, and technique for painting a scene really capture the moment better than I've seen other novels do - and sometimes it felt as though I was watching a cool movie with the camera panning from one scene to another.

I would give this book an 8 or 9 out of 10. I was expecting to like it since I was biased and they are friends, but the book completely excelled without that bias.

So there we go - highly recommended. You can find it on amazon, and I'll link to their website as well.

He wrote the book before moving to LA years ago - they opened some local theatre in LA and ran that for awhile, but he's back in WV now
