Pandorum

http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/pandorum/

I know I posted the trailer for this somewhere, but I went as far back as page 9 and couldn't find it =( Stars Dennis Quaid (again?) and comes out this friday.

Apparently Dennis needs some money because this is like the 5th film he's done this year, I think. Has another coming out about Angels, too.

It's definitely mine. I'm all about the 'no one can hear your silly ass scream in space' kind of movies. /giggles!

My daughter saw this movie at one of those preview shows, back around April or May, I think. She said it was REALLY lame.

I was just pissed because I couldn't go see it too...apparently my age didn't fit their demographics :P

Dennis Quaid is hot enough to watch it even if it's not that great. ;)

This turned out to be a pretty good movie. The basic premise is 2153 Earth is completely void of natural resources - 256billion people are fighting for what's left of food and water and after searching for an 'earth-like' planet, find one and send a 120+ year mission to repopulate it. 60k people with earth's biological specimens are sent into space and it's a one way trip. But, of course, some crazy shit happens along the way.

Enter Corporal Barrow of Flight 5 who wakes up from his hyper-sleep alone and in the dark. He is part of the 5th team flight crew and upon waking sees that the 2nd LT is already awake and out, but no where to be found in the locked room. Assuming that everything is alright, which of course it isn't, the bridge should be just on the other side of a massive door connecting to this locked room. The power is out and none of the doors will open.

Enter Lt. Payton (Dennis Quaid). Commanding Officer of Flight 5, Barrow's explains what happened, which is very little since they are all suffering from temporary memory loss due to the extremely long hyper-sleep. Then there is talk of Pandorum ie cabin fever or 'the crazies'. They both decide they need to figure out what's going on since it would appear the nuclear reactor providing power to the massive ship is about to blow the entire ship up. It takes a little bit for them to remember where they are, what the mission is, and more importantly, what their function is within the mission. Bower's is the technical engineer - Scotty, to put it in simpler terms. He slowly realizes that the reactor is offline and needs to be reset or everything, and everyone, on the ship will be lost. Payton guides Barrow through the air ducts in search of a way to the reactor or at least help from the bridge.

Then the fun begins...

I gave it 4 out of 5 stars on Netflix. I'm a sci fi fan and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, special effects, and the questions that keep you up at night wondering about the future or lack thereof. GOod stuffs. Nice twist ending, as well.

256 billion? Scientists estimate 8 billion as being the max population the Earth can support, and that's after turning all land that isn't being used for housing towards food production.

No kidding. Some of them have been pretty good. Some...not so much. He's in The Legion that just came out too. In any case, yeah I guess that's why they created an exodus type ship. Earth basically bloated out to a barren waste land.
