That's a poor analogy, Kele. Your hypothetically violent means aren't the same as a bunch of do-gooders trying to get some kids across the border to protect them. And come one, let's face it, they were doing those children a service. I hadn't heard they were forcing their beliefs on those kids, just trying to set them up at a resort they were converting into an orphanage. Hell, if I were in Haiti, I'd worship a damn pineapple if it got me off that island. I think their intentions were good, if not stupidly naive to think they could cross the border without papers. /shrug I guess they were hoping the ends justified the means. I had to ask Veb if that was in the bible because I'm a sinner like that, but child trafficking? Probably not.

That's a poor analogy, Kele.

I tried to come up with an analogy as well, but they were all inevitably centered on violence of some sort. His is more applicable than any of mine were. The only non-violent one I can think of is the people you see on COPS getting pulled over cause they have a known prostitute in the car with them... a prostitute they were just "giving a lift" to. They could be telling the truth... but it looks REALLY bad.

Actually, I like that analogy now.

And for the record, I agree with my estimable colleague Gongaa. My entire family - with the exception of me, the heathen - is active in their respective churches, and my mother's side of the family has been involved with The Salvation Army for generations. My parents, my sister, and her ex-husband all used to get the same pieces of mail from missionary organizations, and on the outside of the envelope, they all say something like "Spreading The Word", and not "Helping People Cause We Care"...

The individuals, and the organizations themselves, may truly be motivated by purely philanthropic ideals, but the underlying goal of missionary work is to spread the missionary's religion, especially in the case of Christianity, where in order for Jesus to return to Earth, every man woman and child has to have been given the opportunity to hear his message. That's one hell of a run-on sentence. It is pretty arrogant, in a way, but aren't almost all religions the same way? Aren't most of them exclusive? "My way or the highway"

I'm glad Sec of State Clinton isn't getting involved. Honestly, those idiots were stupid enough to try and cross the border without papers, they need to be on their own. I did hear that the lead chick lied to the other people in the group. Someone passed a note along to a reporter I guess, pleading for help. That they were lied to and did not sign up for kidnapping.

The drama...continues.
