Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
This is quite possibly the best and funniest sleeper movie of 2009. The commercials did nothing to ruin all the hilarious parts of this movie, in fact, other than some guy building a machine that makes it rain food - I had no idea what else it was about.
It stars Bill Hader (SNL) and Anna Farris (Scary Movie 1-5) with Mr. T (yes, that's right...THE Mr. T) as the local police patrolman, James Caan as his father, Bruce Campbell as the weirdo mayor and a ton of other SNL characters. Basic premise is - he's a geekie little kid who pursues his dream of being an adult geeky scientist due to the lovely mother's encouragement who of course dies, leaving him with a father who is genuinely good, but can't express himself, and becomes the laughing stock of the town. 'Lo and behold, Flint (geekie scientist) and his trusty sidekick monkey who can talk (via a 5 year old's toy strapped to his chest) Steve (voice of Neil Patrick Harris) invent a truly wonderful food producing machine, saving the town from its horrible legacy of producing the world's sardines which, said world, has just discovered tastes disgusting. =x
Long story short - this movie has some of the funniest jokes since Shrek. You rent it for your kid, but you end up laughing harder than they do. This had Mike and I ROLLING...oh and Catherine liked it too. This actually kept David's interest damn near all the way through to the ending. Definitely pick it up if you see it (or netflix it). Worth it, fo sho!
