It's very sad news indeed. :( I was surprised to hear Christopher Lee is 88, another great actor, who hopefully has plenty of more years in him! ;)
As for Gene Hackman, I think he retired.

We lost one of the best with Mr Hopper's passing. Its an end of an era.
I have a sick feeling in my stomach that a lot of these old guard actors are about to start passing soon =(
I just hope Gene Hackman can make a few more films.

Nicholson,Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Redford, Morgan Freeman, Dustin Hoffman, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Gene Hackman the list goes on...... all getting way up there in age. Paul Newman was just the beginning; we are poised to lose a legendary generation of great actors over the next 10-20 years.
