Monkeys are the new zombies.

Having never watched the show or any of the movies... I thought the whole premise was that the apes were the only survivors after some sort of holocaust, and that they evolved into the ape-man-things from the show? Or did I just make that up?

That sounds more made up than Kele's chrome using aliens

So the actual plot has been this all along? Apes that were experimented upon and became super-smart and then took over and nearly destroyed the whole world?
Vulash 14 years ago
I honestly don't remember, sounds familiar.

Wikipedia seems to imply a bit of both in the plot portion for the original while the remake was neither

Humans landed on an Ape-man Planet in the original and they ended up following us back to Earth.

The originals were good movies.

That's the original plot? I thought the original was they went into the future and the Apes had taken over, not followed back to Earth. Charleston Heston, right?
Kelefane 14 years ago
No - Humans crashed on a planet. When they went out trying to forage, they came up on a huge regiment of Ape soldiers and were captured.

Yea but we're talking about the origin of the ape civilization
pharren 14 years ago
I thought that since all of "civilization" was buried under sand and shit, that it suggested some sort of apocalypse that wiped out humans and left apes to evolve and take their place.

I don't know what movie Kelefane is talking about. In the original they go up into space, hit some...thing, crash land in the future. Granted you don't know it's the future until Charleston walks along the beach and sees the buried Statue of Liberty.

[last lines]
George Taylor: Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it.
[screaming]
George Taylor: You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

So after seeing the previews for a couple weeks I had serious doubts as to this film having any socially redeeming value. Even rottentomatoes.com, which has been pretty harsh on films in the past gave this between a 79% and 83%. James Franco, John Lithgow, and Andy Serkis (Gollum in LoTR) lead the cast, and all of their performances except maybe that of Serkis were subpar.

I went into the film with very low expectations, yet I left the theater with a larger distaste for the film than when I entered. I had been hoping that because I had low expectations that the film may actually surprise me; allowing for an entertaining experience. It begins with some slightly spotty CGI, no big deal really, then as the film progresses, the CGI is solid, which is what I would certainly expect, but by end it is easy to see more big flaws in the CGI.

Ok, so many have claimed that it is a more character driven story until the conclusion. I like all of the actors but I couldn't get attached to any of them. I am not one to generally find it hard to sympathize/empathize with characters but in this film I could not do so at all. There was no reason to care about any character except for the ape, and there are parts that have you questioning any reason to do so.

It all pretty much culminates in the last 25 minutes of the film or so almost being unwatchable. This sequence pretty much begins with the token line of "you damn dirty apes" by an actor you know from Harry Potter. I won't talk about any more specific details but I will say that physics begins to be ignored, as well as even simple math as 50 turns into 200 within seconds.

Just hoping you guys don't go in expecting a really good movie and are disappointed that you spent your money.
