Saw this last night with m'Lady.

Decent adaptation of the book.

Effects were good, and seeing the non-first person goings-on was neat.

If taking a kid to see it, make sure they can handle on-screen blood/violence, because it's kind of bloody.

what is the deal with this movie - everyone I know who went to it or was excited to see it was a girl... should I bother trying to watch it? I don't dig chick flicks

I haven't seen it but mike and cat have. They liked it. It's more actiony than girly.

but it does have a percentage of girly?

Avengers for example was 200% action 0% girly

It's not girly at all. I enjoyed it. The only few I know that didn't enjoy it had just recently read the book and were disappointed in a few things as a result (basically because it wasn't rated R and couldn't fully display the dark and depressing atmosphere and horror of the games). I thought they did very well.
