Anyone see this?

I'm interested in seeing it. Not usually a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan but wow, he is -perfect- for this role.

Ok I watched this. I think I liked it, but it's a hard one to pin down.

The directing in this movie was shit. It jumped around, and not fluidly. It was often difficult to tell which story thread was important at that scene, or even what was happening at a particular scene. It was hard to know why to care during a few scenes. He was such a prick at points, that it almost pushed my dislike of the character to the point of not being able to be empathetic towards the end. Showing the asshole side would have been ok, but perhaps a little more of the good side during the movie would have helped. So, overall Clint Eastwood did a piss poor job of putting this movie together, and it failed. A few points in the movie I was bored.

However, the acting was fantastic. Not just by Leo either. There were also some really powerful scenes in this movie, and some of the plot elements were really good. Also, the ending almost made up for the rest of the failure. So overall, I liked it I think, but I was also very frustrated because this movie had so much potential if it had been done right.

ugh, I will not watch this with Matt then - bad directing -really- bothers him.

I do think J. Edgar Hoover is a fascinating figure and I love to hear more about the history of the FBI and that period in history in general - it's mostly about the early days, right? That was the impression I got from the preview.

It's a weird hodgepodge of disjointed scences

Haha, when I read that, it was in the Gollum voice.

I'm kinda worried about this after your review, Vulash. I was really looking forward to it, and I thought Clint Eastwood could do no wrong!

Me, too. But it sounds like The Good Shepherd, which I hated.

I couldn't get into The Good Shepherd either, and I should have -loved- that movie.

Like I said it has some good moments, but if you're going to fixate on one or two things that are very poorly done then it's going to be difficult to enjoy.
