Borders :\

How do you make borders Mae?! I dont get how :(

Mira does it the p8ssy way :teehee. You can use the Stroke option. I use the eliptical tool and select inverse once I selected a section...i can paste screenshots of it because I've always wanted to do that =D

Stroke is definitely the easier way though. I just like to do funky things to my borders =)

I cant find those tools  Wheres stroke and is eliptical tool what I think it is? (Yes, I know, descriptive I am.) (Yoda too.)

Hard to tell you exactly where without having a copy of PS in front of me.

The elipictal took is the top left hand corner box...choices are a circle, square and then vert lines and hori lines.

Stroke is under...uh...2nd or 3rd menu option over, your area has to be selected for stroke to be highlighted, otherwise its just grayed out.

That make sense?

So confused on the Stroke thing :( I knew what the other was tho! And I still stink at it :\

Shoosh you, post the one's youre talking about. I think they're great.

But but... the smell bad :(

I still think number three is the bestest out of all of um. Mae likes 2. We shall see what others think!

I dont really like any of them that much. Might have to make a new one soonish. A girl can never have too many sigs :-P

When I saw your borders Mae, my first inclination (in imitating them) were to create them in Illustrator and paste them into photoshop...I'm not as good at drawing in photoshop as I am just manipulating ;)

I couldnt draw if my life depended on me. There's a lot of fun ways to make a border. I just goofed around with some of the filters, plus there are add on filters like 'Eye Candy' that can really spice it up. All trial and error =)

What is this stroke thing you speak of?

I make borders by increasing the canvas size and adding another layer behind the image.. Not the best way, but it's sufficient for my purposes. I can see how you'd use the eliptical tool on an overlying layer for a cut-out effect, and the various options that could offer, but the only stroke I know has nothing to do with photoshop. :o

Eluna, I'm assuming you did that drawing freehand? I wish I could draw like that.

nevermind, I found it... Edit> Stroke.

Yeah, that's cheesy. =)

Yeah whenever I talk about the stroke option, I laugh a little. Eluna does all freehand and is currently doing some intern thing over the summer i think, no internet access. I miss her =(

This is how I make borders like in my sig:

1) Add a new layer and activate it.
2) Select All (control + A)
3) Select->Modify->Border and pick a value. You want it to be about 2/3 the size of your final border so guess small. I think I used 15 in my current sig.
4) Select the paint bucket tool and click in the border area several times (3 times in this example). Color does not matter
5) Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options and click on Color Overlay. Put it to whatever color you want. You can change it at will.
6) Click on Bevel and Emboss. Under "Shading" click on "Double Ring" (bottom row, third from the left).
7) Leave style and technique on inner bevel and smooth. Increase the depth a lot until it doesn't really seem reasonable. All the way to 1000% works.
8) Play with the size slider until it looks cool.

Another way to fuss with color is doing ALT U. Adjusting the hues on any layer you're working on, just click colorize.
