Scanners

So I've decided against stealing my scanner at work. Anyone have any recommended scanner/brand I should look into? Post recommendations please before I talk myself out of spending the money!

This $99 HP scanner was my first thought.

HP makes a good scanner. With the technology that's in scanners now, I think you'll find that most will provide the quality that you're looking for.

Mine's an HP. My ex used to call them High Priced and wouldn't buy anything by HP, my father loved HP. Dad bought the scanner, yay for birthday presents! :) I can say it has out lasted my other scanner so if nothing else it seems to hold up better than some others.

I have an HP scanner at work (8290 I think) and I'm not a huge fan, but it does the job. At home I use an Epson Perfection 4870 Pro - http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=40524124&BV_SessionID=@@@@0899287199.1114216616@@@@&BV_EngineID=dadddgdhkgmjbfdmcfjgckidnk.0

It's certainly not the least expensive scanner out there, but it does great quality for a non-professional model. Of course, if you have no interest in scanning film and negatives, it may not be of much interest to you. I bought it for the hardware scan resolution (4800 x 9600 dpi) and use it for scanning my drawing and painting assignments for school. It picks up detail well and the color can sometimes be a little dark, but it's easily corrected in Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements - comes with the Pro package).

Thanks for recommendations. I don't need a super high end one since I don't goto school (lolz) or have a need to scan in negatives. I am pretty sure 1200dpi will be sufficient for lineart. Now I just need to see what is Linux supported so I don't have to write/contribute a driver.
