Website preferences

OK, so I haven't updated my website in about 2 years. I've been toying with the idea lately and my question is.. is there a better way to set up an image gallery than in tables? I use Frontpage 2000 I think it is, may be 2002.. Right now it's thumbs in tables with a new pop up of the image. Personally I love them opening in new windows since I am the type who shift clicks every link, so I can just close it when done and be back where I was =) Are there any 'standards' or anyone want to share some way they like?
