New Artist

I usually hang out over at BBhate, but have been trolling these boards for a while, It pretty hard to get artistic criticism over there, so I decided to post here.

Normally I am a traditional Pen and Ink artist, but today I decided to try my hand at some sig making.

This is for my WoW rogue on Icecrown:

This is only the second message board sig I have made, so I am pretty satisfied. However, I don't really like the blandness of the Name text, and have been trying to teach myself (rather unsuccessfully) how to achieve that 3D text look through Photoshop.

HI2U Khava! Your sig does look awesome, especially for your second screenshot sig. :thumbsup The only thing I'd c/c is be careful of your negative space, you might want to consider making your name bigger and centering it. The text effect is pretty cool though, I like that a lot. You'll also notice that abaddon is one of those fonts that everyone and their brother used but it still looks cool for your quote. Great job. Hope to see more of your sigs and post some of your freehand stuff too!

Welcome to TAC!

I really like the blur effect you have going behind the name text. Some possible font options that would work well with it could be Adler, Alien, Angryblue, BlueCake, Harting Plain, or Mechanical Fun. You can find these and lots of other free fonts on http://www.dafont.com I think the outer glow or stroke you have outside the text takes away from the blur though and would probably get rid of it if you can. The color choice on the name font could be a more saturated shade of orange-red.

If you wanted to go with a more 3D look, check out http://thewebmachine.com - lots of good tutorials there.

For the quote, I'd go with something simpler. If you're going with a more techno-ish look, you could try one of the fonts in the pixel section on dafont.

I would suggest bringing your character forward more to fill some of the space on the right part of the sig and bring out the reds and oranges in his armor.

You've got some good foundation on layout and the border is nice and clean. Can't wait to see more from you! Maybe you might even consider posting some of your freehand work.

welcome Khava!

Very nice attempt there. Were you looking for any c/c for this or just displaying your art ?

c/c, I'm an open minded artist.

Going to play around with it some more tonight and see what I can modify. And thank you Ryala for those links, exactly what I was looking for.

As for the qoute, were you referring to the font or the qoute itself?

Ok! here goes my CC

conceptwise you've got a good idea going, but here's the things >i< would change

the height of the image is unnecessarily tall. You could move your toon up, and the quote up, and cut off the bottom portion. This will also eliminate a little bit of the dead space between name and quote on the left side

OR

Make the name larger and move it down some to fill in the dead space under it.

Sorry, I meant the font. The quote itself is fab.

For the freehanders out there :) hehe I would too, SK, I didnt know you did freehand.

That sig looks great. Much better than I could do. I had trouble reading your characters name, I guess the font, but that very well could just be me. Blind, I am.

Its beautiful.
