there's a million or so free fonts @ www.dafont.com
borders, well.. just browse peoples' art and see what they do for borders, there's an endless number of ways you can make some real nice fancy borders, just takes a little bit of imagination and experimenting!
oh yes :welcome
c/c - my 1st sig
Hiya all, I just started playing around with photoshop the other day, and for a freshman entry, I'm happy with what I made. I actually had fun making it, so I'll definately be making some more sigs in the future. I'd really like to get some c/c on this. Don't hold back or anything, I'm here to learn from ppl that have been doing this for a while

Couple areas I know I'd like to improve:
- I noticed when making this that I've got a horrible collection of fonts. Any suggestions in this area?
- I spent a couple hours trying to figure out a good way to make a decent border, and wasn't getting much headway.
Thanks for your time![/img]

The sunglasses are awesome! :heehee
The easiest border is just an outline.
One quick and dirty way to do that is take your rectangle selection tool on a new layer and make a long strip the entire width of your longest side.
Fill it in with color.
Copy it and move this to the top.
Copy it again. Go to edit> Transform> rotate 90 degrees. Move that to one side.
Copy that and move it to the other side.
Merge all 4 layers and then play around with the blending options (the little pull down menu just above the the layers in your layer box ) Multiply, overlay.. screen.. never know what looks cool until you flip through all of them.

Check the tutorial section too, I think my tutorial for the cut out center borders is still in there, plus there might be another one. There has to be 15 million ways to do one thing in PS which makes it fun.
The trick about text is...download as many as possible =D There are favorites out there that you will see everyone using or has used a lot at one point. For men - abbaddon. For ladies - scriptina. Definitely try datfont.com and just download all the cool ones you see =D
Always remember to pick a focal point. Your halfling looks hilarious and nicely done with the shades! Scaling him larger and centering him will help balance the sig. Also keep in mind about negative space, my eye kept going to the top of his head. A typical sig layout is to have the name larger then the quote, as well.
:thumbsup Great job Baub-b!!! Looking forward to seeing more =D

Easiest way I know of to do a border, if you have PhotoShop... Make a new layer over everything you want the border over. (Sometimes there are things you want to pop over the border) Fill that new layer with any color. Now go to Edit>Stroke and set the amount of pixels you want your border to be. Now you should have a box within a box. Take your magic wand tool and select the inner box and delete it. Voila! You now have a border around your sig. Now go to the blending options and play with the styles until you find something you like. :) Hope that helps!

That quote made me LOL Your character looks like the unibomber...
I don't have any c/c to add - looks like eveyrone else has it well covered. Nice work on your first one! I especially like how you did the character name and guild name.
