Fozz has been keeping a close eye on this game for some time. There are things I like and things I'm so so on, but I'll be giving it a shot.
Sigil is actually a totally separate company from Verant (which was sort of a spin off from Sony and was eventually just absorbed under the SoE name). However, some of the developers from 'the good part' of EQ 1 are working on Vanguard.
At any rate, Fozzik helps to power a happy fansite where you can check stuff out too. www.silkyvenom.com
Any thoughts on this game?
Ok from the people who made the good part of EQ1. Sigil (formerly verant interactive)

Looks like it might be worth a look. Good news, no more Sony involvement. I am watching this carefully.

A lot of people on another art board I visit are watching this thing like crazy and I have to say I'm starting to get interested. It seems like it's going to have a lot of the things I wanted (and didn't get) out of EQ2. Also, just thinking about the early days of EQ and how great it was (for me, anyway) makes me hope that this game will have that kind of excitement. Sure, I'm no longer an MMORPG virgin so it would be hard to do, but who better to try and recreate that experience?

I'm with Ry on this.. X and I've been watching it and getting excited. Hopefully this can help recapture the excitement and awe that we had when we started playing EQ1. We'd hoped to find it with 2, but the crappy cartoony graphics for EQ2 just take a lot away from the game, especially for X. Besides, you feel like been there done that with the zones, even if they are different it's the same names and places in the end =/ This looks to be totally different but have all of the elements of EQ before they dumbed it down so much. My fingers are crossed!

EQ2 was easy to learn, and I was excited.
Then I hit 30, and went looking for a challenge....
Then I hit 40 and never found it.
Then I quit.
EQ2 is like EQ1 for complete retards. This is a group of 4 mobs, it even tells you how many people you need in your group to kill them. I thought the graphics were well done, but eye candy did not a game make.
I missed the raiding, where it felt like you were killing a god.
Perfect balance, equals no challenge I guess.

well, vanguard is said to be the real eq2, and not the official eq2. but im just a little skeptical (sp?) about all the new ideas wondering if its really going to work. like swinging only every 4-5 secs in melee combat giving you time to choose your next move etc.
also, the graphics arent overwhelming so far. the world looks kinda boring, but the engine has alot more potential.
