Discussion - Why do you write?

(this is posted on SA.com)

You hear the question, 'Why do you do art' a lot, but Rasberry and I were talking this morning about our ideas over a future mafia. Discussing plot ideas and things we liked and disliked about it. I said, 'what i like about writing is...well making shit sound cool, but I enjoy writing about things I wouldnt normally write about or even like,' and to look at it as a writing exercise.

So, why do you write? What challenges you? Where are you going with your writing, if anywhere other than just whismical rantings?

I think the interest in writing for me is trying to create a scene or a feeling using words. Sometimes I do this for a painting but many times its just something to look at. =/ I also enjoy making characters that are believable and unique. Loved or hated, it doesn't really matter so long as they aren't boring. If people connect to the story, scene, or character then I feel pretty accomplished. :hide

it is an entity, there for i write to breathe life into it and it is no longer beggging to be heard.

I love telling a story...to entertain, not only the reader, but also myself. There are so many worlds out there that we, as humans, just can't seem to get to...but by writing what we see in our minds, we can share our ideas and our thoughts on those places that we've only glimpsed in our dreams and imaginations.

I feel that way about all art, though I am generally craptastic at everything but writing, and even that is questionable. :P
