Class Reunions

Were you the geek, or the popular kid in school. Did you go to your reunion if you had one? How did it go?

When I first moved to TX, I was a complete nerd. I hated TX. As time went on, people got to know the real Don, and I made some friends. By the time I graduated, I was allowed to talk to the cheerleaders (heh), and one of them WANTED ME...however she wasn't the best looking cheerleader, but hey, I'll chalk that one up in the cool column. Seriously, I was pretty well liked. But there was always a handful of people that could care less about me, and that was cool too.

I refused to go to my 10 year reunion. I've seen the people that could care less about me in high school, and they were all in a sudden my buddy. I cannot stand that fake bullshit. I chose not to go, because I didn't want to have to act like I gave a shit about what they were up to now. I kind of regret going, because I didn't go see some of the people I wanted to see. A lot of my friends said they weren't going either, so that helped in my decision. One of my good friends ate a bullet which still remains a mystery.

Anyway, do any of you that have reunions go, and how was your experience. I may go to my 15 year one, if they have one just for shit's and giggles.

Skipped my 10 year reunion in 2001 and went to hawaii with my best friend from my previous highschool. I mean really...reunion with dipshits or hawaii. I got totally wasted on the plane flying over first class. Yeah for cocktails at 9 in the morning =D

I was one of about 60 transfer students my junior year. The group I hung out with were all transfer students lol. A few that came from the same military base my father transferred from in hawaii, a few from other parts of the world. I barely keep in touch with one of them.

Mike and our best friend Daryl here on the board went to the reunion. 'Where's roz?'

Mike replies with a tight expression, 'In hawaii.' (hehe)

Daryl ended up hooking up with a girl we knew in school and married her a year later. They have a little boy now. Weird how they spent 10 years apart, just to marry after the reunion. Sweet though.

I hated highschool. So. Much. I did, however, meet Veb/Mike there. He dated the friend I barely keep in touch with now =D She broke up with him because he was too nice though.../rolls eyes So Veb and I went to prom, I have to find and scan that picture. Been together ever since. =)

Didn't go to my 10 year. By the time I graduated in '92 I was already an online person, had no friends at my high school so I saw no point in going back.. why, just to see how the snots turned out? Meh. I was the girl with her hair in here eyes wearing black every day either reading a book under a tree, in the auditorium for some drama thing, or working on the school newspaper. I knew lots of people, but no one I'd call a friend enough to care how their life's been.

I *loved* my high school. I went to a performing and visual arts academy with a bunch of really talented people. I wouldn't say there were popular or geeky kids there. There were certainly cliques, but it was mostly due to people just hanging out with other people in the same major since you usually spent at least 2 hours of your day with them if not more.

I probably knew and got along with about 90% of the people in my school, but my circle of friends was small. We had a minimum GPA requirement, so everyone hit the books. My graduating class had 8 valedictorians if that says anything. Fighting was absolutely not allowed and anyone caught fighting was sent back to their regularly zoned high school. We all had a passion for something which was why we were there so everyone was careful not to screw up.

My high school reunion hasn't come up, but I'm not sure if I'd go. I think I'd be interested to find out just how many people actually went on to pursue their majors in HS, but my friends in HS are still a part of my small group of friends today so I don't feel like I'd miss anything if I didn't go.

Here's one for you: I was homeschooled in HS so I don't have a reunion to go to. I was also the only one of the other homeschool kids that graduated the year I did so I was alone in that.

I went to a public school in Jr High but it was a really bad school and not very good for book learnin, I didn't have very many friends since it was very...well it was pretty much the rich kids vs the poor kids and since I was inbetween I didn't really fit with either group. I got along with everyone but no real friends.

Anyway I decided that the school was bullshit and not worth my time since I was learning more watching the history channel than I was going to class so I decided to homeschool, which I think was a great move for many reasons.

But...yeah...kinda forgot where I was going with that...oh Ryala...curious what it is that you do for a living now, and what you went to HS/College for.

My major in HS was music (clarinet) & theater (with a stint in German for 2 years) and my major in college is graphic design (still working on that degree...ha! The main delay on that was I majored in English and education for 5 years before deciding what I really wanted to do). I haven't played clarinet much since I moved to Texas, but I do plan on auditioning for the Dallas Wind Symphony at some point. My current job is in middle management for Countrywide - it's a job, and financial type work runs in the family, I guess.

This summer I will be missing my 20th anniversary high school reunion. Funny, but 1985 doesn't seem like so long ago. Marky, my husband, is still in Germany and won't be able to come out here for the occasion. I really don't relish the thought of spending the evening explaining where he is, why isn't there, how we met, etc. to a bunch of people I really don't care much about anyway. Especially not for the $100 per ticket they want to charge.

Besides, the people that I DO care about from highschool, you can count them on one hand, I still keep in touch with. ;)

Motherfucking Uni would be appropriate imo.

I call my horse Ford. Ford Pinto. Sometimes I call him Ford Prefect just for kicks.

Be honest Don. You'd tell him to fuck off anyway.

By the way, guild chat in HoF on Icecrown is NOT for the weak. There is NO PG rating and no limitations on what is said. So if you're the sort of person that cries IRL, you might want to either warn us, or choose not to join the guild :)

I'd be the one named Gilae if you're looking. If I can manage to stay awake long enough to log on!
