My audio was all fooked up, but for Mae: SPOILER!!!!!!! SKIP PAST THIS POST IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE CLIP IS!!11!!1! (I'm just kidding here.)

Ok,

Man and his kid in the store. Kid puts candy in basket, dad takes out. Kid puts in, dad takes out, kid puts in, dad takes out. Kid throws a screaming fit, and starts trashing the store, then kicking and screaming laying on the floor. Then the words Use condoms pops up on the screen. Zazoo, or something like that, condom ad.

It is humerous.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking. No child of mine would ever try and pull a stunt like that and live to see the next day. You can say what you want about spanking children, but sometimes it IS needed. What's sad is I have seen children behave like this at stores and what do the parents do? They grab the candy and give it to them just to keep them quiet. Not me boy. That child wouldn't see candy for a month! If I tried something like that on my dad when I was a kid...good lord. Armageddon would be less frightening.

Regarding the spanking, I'm kind of surprised you think so. Not that I really subscribe to or reject a single theory; I imagine they all work on at least one kid ;). For my kid, spanking is the most futile and ineffective thing I can imagine doing as punishment.

I guess I sounded hardcore or harsh. I agree. Not all children need to be spanked...it won't even work on all kids. But a kid who is mouthy, belligerant, and doesn't respond to other alternatives of discipline (ie, me ;) ) requires more than stern words or explanations sometimes. And a child that is screaming in the middle of a supermarket has obviously never been taught what is appropriate behaviour, or if they have been told it hasn't been effective and other avenues of discipline need to be put into effect. In this case I would guess this kid is LOOKING for discipline and has never been given any.

I just wonder what the Check out person would say if i rolled up with that little SOB duct taped to the side of the cart from head to toe.

Then quietly paid for my groceries and whats left of the half a roll of tape.
Verileah 20 years ago
gotcha Gilae :D. Yeah, I guess by the time a kid gets to that level you've already got a few issues O_O.

Paying for the remaining duct tape might be the last straw for the poor check out person...*laughs*

From what I've seen the biggest problem seems to be lack of follow through of any kind. I've heard parents make threats from anything to spanking, grounding or the mystery threat of " You better stop that right now...or else!" When the kid doesn't stop there is just another threat and no actual action. It would seem to me that if you make a threat of punishment you should be willing to follow through with it.

Which means if you don't plan on beating your kids senseless then don't say it... even though the thought is a pleasant one while they are behaving like terrors. If you say they'll not see candy for a month then make sure they don't. That alone would probably deter them from making that little scene again.

Amen sista! No idle threats for the win!
