Well... not sure exactly what you're looking for, but something I always thought would be handy is grouping the individual art sections with their respective library.
Freehand
Freehand Library
---------------
2D
2D Library
---------------
3D
3D Library
But that might create too many sections on your board, which can be intimidating.
When is it too much? (board question)
TAC institute is a pretty jumbled mess, I was wondering if anyone had a particular preference as to how they think they'd like it set up.
On NS they have separate libraries but that would mean putting in a duplicate section for each of the mediums we have now. I'm more than happy to gank a good idea, but I'd rather we put our own spin on it.
I was thinking we could combine 2D and 3D tutorials together and freehand on its own. So that would be 1 more section. But then 2D/3D have a bigger following here, so maybe 3 sections? 2D, 3D, then freehand?
Thoughts, ideas? What would you guys like to see?

Technically its only gaining 2 if we made the library section now one of the 3.

I agree with Annalise, just because people tend to have a section of art they prefer so you'd have the gallery and the library right there together.
Las is very fond of the search function, yes? :winky

I never really READ forums, I just go to search and look for things like "sex" or "blow" or something. I find all the good posts.

In all seriousness, I don't like it. I think that it takes attention away from the main attention getter, which is the forum containing the user artwork itself. That area becomes to cluttered.
Once you have gotten past the clutter, you then wonder to yourself, you say "Self...why are there tutorials for 2D and 3D but nothing else?" And then you may say to yourself, "My God...what has she done?"
Sorry, got carried away. Where was I? :?
Either put the tutorials in as stickies, have a seperate category called Tutorials, or put a single Tutorials forum at the bottom of the category it's in right now. Anything more presents clutter.

[23:41] GODpimp007: Maybe change up the names of the forums to like "Tutorials - 2D Art" so it's obvious at first glance which forum it is so it doesn't confuse people
[23:42] rozbeans: good idea
[23:46] GODpimp007: hmmm..better, but it still seems kind of jumbled
[23:46] GODpimp007: OK, how about this
[23:47] GODpimp007: Create sections like you have now for general, art, writing, etc and then put the actual art and it's tut forum in the section. And then have a general art section for crayonics, crayon box, etc

I think I"m with Las, but I could be mistaken lol. What I suggested in IM's to Mae was, keep the TAC Institute down where it is. Put your 3 big stickies in there up top. Keep links to offsite tutorials as well as links to tutorials within the Institute to keep down having to search for things. Something like:
TAC Institute
*General Art Tutorials (Photoshop and other art program techniques, etc)
*2d Tutorials (Screenshot/Photo Manips, Dolls, etc)
*3d Tutorials (Poser, Daz|Studio, Blender, etc)
*Freehand Tutorials (Pencil and paper or Digital)
Keep those all stickied up top and have someone keep up on them so links don't get out of date. Make sure images for tutorials have a good home so they aren't lost. Ya know, that kinda thing :)

[ 12:23 AM ] chick coder: im thinkin it'd be better to have like (category)2d 3d Freehand
[ 12:23 AM ] chick coder: then stick the showcase and tuts in their respective categories
[ 12:23 AM ] rozbeans: post!
[ 12:23 AM ] chick coder: and then a 4th category called Events or something *for crayonics*

I have this bad habit of wanting to organize everything. lol We're anticipating more tutorials and trying to make the community more of what its already becoming, a place you can curse, laugh, learn, do art and write. There are a ton of great ideas here but maybe the best solution is to keep it simple? :?

Subforum mods are messy and confusing. And a pain to upgrade later!

Vex showed me eqcleric, they have subforums but I think the mod is only for older boards. We were gonna go search for an updated one.
I went in and condensed a little, clearing up single link threads. It's a process =D

The problem with subforums is you don't always notice when there's a new post. The forum is not really that huge that it needs them, not to mention the little bugger takes forever to code *stabs it*
No, the forum is not big. Course, what do I know, to me all forums look small after seeing my own.
Personally I liked Vex's first idea without the subs best. Looks all neat and tied together to me.
