Some questions

Ok I have a few questions :)

I posted a piece for c/c and got "Needs skin texture." No idea what that is, so I started looking around. There's nothing (that I can find) at the DAZ website that states plainly what textures are, how to apply them, and so forth. I've looked at different tutorials and they just mention playing with the hair textures that are already set up for the figures - nothing about how to create new hair in DAZ.

There are some "makeup" morphs that I downloaded from Renderosity, and those change the skin color of the face, but then the face is one color and everything else is another. I didn't know how to match the skin on the rest of the figure to the face texture.

Basically I don't know how to add realistic hair or skin and none of the tutorials that I've seen go to a basic level and just explain what to do.

Any help would be appreciated!!

These are what various skin textures look like.. as far as where to get free ones..

I found a lot of my first free skin textures on Rendervisions

When you unzip them to your libraries you find them in the pose files.. they are called Mat poses and will generally have the name of the character or the person who made them on them.

Helen was found there and was used on Verileah's summer exchange wallpaper and avatar. Verileah without added wode.

That's where they are found in poser.. I would guess it is the same for DAZ studio.

Ok so how do you add a skin texture to a figure?

Its just like applying a pose but it doesn't move the character. You click on it from the library of pose files with your figure selected and when you render you should see it applied to the model.

(That is assuming its like poser O_O which I believe it is )

I appreciate the help!!

Now about the hair.... I've downloaded free hair zip files but when I go to add them to the figure, nothing happens. It acts like it's adding something to the picture but nothing appears, and then there's nothing in the breakdown section that shows you each piece of the figure, there's no hair icon, so nothing was added. Granted, both of the ones I downloaded are from the same person at Renderosity, so maybe they just weren't zipped right.

I haven't been successful downloading ANY hair. Either it tells me I'm missing such-and-such file, or nothing happens when I try to add it.

I'm trying to practice painting hair in Photoshop but it just doesn't look right :( I feel stuck!

I am afraid I can't help you on this one not having worked with DAZ. Someone else might be able to though. :)

The trick to putting on different pieces of this that and the other, is to make sure you have FIGURE 1 and HEAD/body selected. If you dont, it wont show up, at least in poser. It's also a process, i've noticed. Do you pose AFTER you do the mat skin and hair and make sure you have fIGURE/BODY selected to move the whole thing, otherwise you'll end up just moving the hair in some cases.

To recap: To put on the hair, make sure you have FIGURE 1 selected and HEAD for the body part. Then you n eed to 'conform to figure' - again that's in poser, I'm sure it's the same or similiar in dAZ
