I emailed my academic advisor because my name isn't listed on the Honor Roll, which is posted in the 'Campus Common' portion of my school's website.



WHAT A BIG LOAD OF BULL SHIT!

I have two jobs, a family, and a million other responsibilities. I just can't afford the time to be a full time student, but that doesn't mean that I don't work 10 times as hard as other students. Most of the time, I feel as though I put forth more effort than anyone else in my classes. My GPA is 4.0 and for the amount of money I'm forking out to go to this damn school, I don't think that a little recognition is too much to ask.

Agreed. While one person saying something might not get something done, you never know there has probably been others so that little extra push could help.

Yeah, I was pretty ticked about that too. It seems a lot of the extra stuff is limited to full time students. I can't even get a student membership to AIGA because I'm not full time. My advisor annoys me because she keeps calling my house in the middle of the day when I've told her I work during the day and she needs to e-mail me.

I'm guessing that the policy is in place to ensure that it won't be abused somehow. Someone taking 1-3 classes so that they could pad their GPA for some grad school?

That being said if I was in charge of the program I would agree. Not to sound callous, but I would have no idea what you did outside of school. The only thing I could judge people on, and even this is pretty relative, is their performance in school.

Even if they made a seperate posting of part time honor roll that would be something.. and I don't see why they couldn't do that at the very least.

Ryala, I feel your pain. My academic advisor is fairly useless .... thankfully, I got an email today saying she's changing positions and wont be my academic advisor anymore. Frankly, I'm not crushed.

We'll see if the next person I get stuck with is any worse.

Vebran, you're a dear, but I have to disagree. Is someone with a BA who took 5 or 6 years to get there because they were working while in school any less of a good candidate than someone who got their BA in 4 years?

It shouldn't matter what my class load is. If I were not working 2 jobs and I were taking 4 classes per quarter instead of 2, I would still have a 4.0 GPA. How do I know that? Because I put forth 110% effort I don't settle for less.

Mai, your suggestion is good. A separate list would even appease me right now.
