Husband and I went to see it. Husband said it's pretty accurate portayal of enlisted life together. (Due note, hubby is a submariner, so he is rather weird and prone to boredom when out to sea anyway.) I thought it was a well done movie, and showed basically, a behind the scenes of war/military. It wasn't too hollywoodized with unneeded explosions and gun fighting.

Veb was telling me that's the point. They're a gaggle of marines who are trained to kill and get all hyped up to do it...then never see any action. That the movie is based on the main character's book and how he went years wishing he had killed someone and was seriously fucked up over it. Apparently he comes to terms and is grateful he didn't. I really want to see it.

It's well done. I liked it. There are parts in there that only military folk will find humorous. There is LOTS of cussing. lol. Ryan and I both learned some new cuss words from that movie I think. lol.

Also, there are some scenes that just make you think. They draw you in and make you understand. If that makes sense.

my dad and all his marine buddies went to see it, he said it was good. Good timing putting it out right before the Marine Corps Birthday tomorrow.

Our nephew joined the Marines this week. The first thing I asked when we heard was, 'Did he see Jarhead?'

These military movies make enlistment go through the roof. When Top Gun came out, I remember hearing that the Navy got record enlists...all wanting to be pilots. When they do these movies justice, they're awesome to watch. My father sat through Top Gun and was like, 'yup, that's how they did it'. More with the stuff on the Carriers, not the actual pilot school.

My nephew just joined the marines too. Although he left for the Island on the 24th of Oct so pre movie. I am hoping my other nephew sees it and decides to join...he really needs to do something with his life.

Can't wait for his graduation in Jan! When my dad graduated boot camp he swore he'd never go back to Parris Island. Jan. 20th will be his first time back since 1962!

I refuse to see this movie which I realize is pretty close minded of me. But I lost my very first love to that stupid Dessert Sheild/Storm. Even after 14 years if I want to know how it was, I can go read the box full of letters I still have.

I understand Cali. And I don't think that's close minded. It's called hitting to close to home, and that I understand. Sorry about your loss.
