Rant about c/c

I know the feeling; I have similar experiences with fanfic writing. I have a few close friends that I use to "beta" my original fiction, but I think showing fanfic to anyone outside the community would just weird people out, so I go with the communities availiable for the medium.

To milk out anything helpful, I will often give a specific opening which leads to broader discussion. I make an email address availiable. I critique others the way I wish to be critiqued, and put a good deal of time into looking at other people's work and responding.

I'm amazed at how many people genuinely don't understand what c/c is. Perhaps saying in clear terms what you want would help, I don't know. At the writing sites I go to, people will often complain that anything negative in your story discussion thread is a "flame."

I used to write fan fic. I met a girl on a newsgroup and she beta'd everything for me. God she was awesome, always caught my grammatical errors and was encouraging. She sent my daughter a little pirate t shirt when she went to the carribbean and i taped season 7 of the x files for her since it was 6 months behind in England where she lived, but was australian I think. I need to email her hehe.
