We have a mouse who is roughly seven months old. He's a good little mouse and likes to be held and played with.
I clean his cage every three days or so to cut down on the smell, though he isn't nearly as stinky as a hamster or gerbil. However in the last couple of weeks, I will clean his cage and the next day it smells like I haven't cleaned him in a week.
Also when I take him out of his little floor ball, that thing smells so bad I can barely pick it up to clean it.
Could there be something wrong with him or is he just aging?
BTW: He's eating well, is still sociable, and plays normally.

Maybe someone scared the piss out of him?
Has his food changed any?
Has anyone tried to Purell his hair?
Have you given him anything different to chew on?

Oh haha
No, same stuff as always.
Yes, but he was then cleaned, dried and a call was made to the vet
Nope same little ball thing he's had for about two months now. (it's cool it's a toy and a chew thing all in one, he has a good time with it.)

I just asked a guy I work with who used to raise rats. I know not the same thing, but rodents none the less. If it is a male mouse, he says that now that he has aged and matured, he is spreading his scent around. He's ready to get his freak on. He's trying to attract a mate. He says this scent is smelly and nasty. He says female's don't smell because they don't spread a scent. If you have a female mouse, I dont have an answer. Hope this helped.

I can't have a cat. My daughter is allergic to pet dander and I can't afford the $400 deposit plus $10 per month pet rent.
(But I want a cat)

Some male animals get really stinky. When I was a preteen, we raised goats. My favorite baby boy goat got to keep all his attachments. Damn was he smelly.
Mouse may be managable in stench, good luck. Maybe you can get him a tiny blowup doll mouse?
