We have the Hoover Steam Vac I happen to love the thing.
It's very easy to use, comes with attachments, and even leans back like a vacuume cleaner.
I've used it to clean all of my carpets, my couch and love seat and my car. I even use it to clean my daughter's bed every few months. (She's a bed wetter and that plastic doesn't always catch everything.)

I bought a Bissell ProHeat years back and I liked it. Worked well, heated the water on its own, etc. I haven't used anything else to compare and it's been years since I had it (I didn't take it with me when I left the ex) so the memory is a bit fuzzy.

I have a Hoover steamvac and I like it. It's actually not steam, but hot water sprayed on your carpet and then sucked back up. I can't always find the Hoover cleaning solution, sometimes I buy Bissell and it works just as well.
It's easy to use and cleanup isn't bad. You just have to empty and rinse the dirty water resovoir right away after you're done. If you leave it for more than a day it smells REALLY BAD. Mine also works best if I vacuum my carpet with the regular vac first.
My only complaint is that it's a heavy mo-fo, so it's difficult to get up and down stairs. If you don't have stairs, no problem. :)
