i love it =) wouldn't use java, but javascript. Java is for actual applications. web based or not. Javascript is client side coding.
If you can explain what you're wanting it to do i can explain how to do it.
my website LIVES!
well.. almost. neeeeeeed hep!
here is my design. I can make rolling buttons ok but my javascript to make the images come up in their respective windows was entirely MESSY. Spaghetti code, hold the meatballs.
so I need cc. and hopefully someone who can help me with java

hurray! well its good to know it passes the basic navigations test
as for the java(script) pardon my shortening that..
before with my site you'd click a thumbnail and a pic would come up in its own window, correctly sized and titled. Pretty standard but I had like, a MILLION variables I had to put in for it. I also had a tooltip kinda thingie where you could hover over a pic and get the basic info for it.. also a million variables.
It made doing the HTML editing a great big PITA. Its code I got from a free site... and it was very crude and messy. Combining the two only made it worse.
I'd like to streamline this process a little and it might require me to shift the thumbnails around but I'd like to do essentially the same thing as before only have the 'hover info' be on a static place on the screen and I'd really like to skip the part where I have a million variables. It made having 30 pics on a page a great big pain in the butt. I dont know if this would require some XML but I am ok with that if it helps pare down the actually HTML I have to look at all the time.
thanks vex

Ok there are several ways to do this...
1 - store all your info in a database, using mySQL and PHP, with a javascript template, much more streamlined.
2 - use dhtml & javascript alone, there really isnt any way to do what you're wanting and it not be cumbersome. the great thing about using a database w/ php, is that you kind of set up a template, and it fills in what you want, instead of having to copy and paste a new set for each new image you add.

well I confess I had to google some of that but I sort of have an idea what you mean. It certainly sounds like something I'd like to do. Half of the reason my website died such a quick and painful death was that maintaining it was just too cumbersome compared to DA's easy uploads. I have more questions and possibly some work for you so I'll be dropping you an email if you're up for it
