Yeah I think you're showing too much bottom of the jaw for the chin. Though I guess it depends on how much up her nose you're going to show.
Your forehead seems a teeny bit large (tall). Also count your head sizes for height as its 1 'head' from chin to nipple and another 'head' from nipple to bellybutton. I'd show some indication of a far shoulder. Lastly I'd suggest having her far hair line follow more of the curve of her head (unless those are "flip" bangs and I've misinterpreted the hairline) Check your ref against all of this of course :)
New Year's Thingy - WIP
I plan on messing more with the chin and her left (our right) eye, but you guys have any other nitpicks before I make a sad attempt at coloring? This is of Ryala BTW.

LOL Yeah, I was tryin to do a flippy thing.
On the chin, my ref pose pic is kind of upturned so you see a bit under the chin. I guess I need to show more up her nose for that to make sense.
Does she really need shoulders? =P I'll work on this more tonight or tomorrow night.

is her shoulder showing in the pic? i'd think even looking up at her you'd still see like a little half circle bump
edit : oh and a lot of the defining angles will fill themselves out with color or shading too. If you're keen on making it precise show your ref and we can compare but I think if you can just fix those few small things you'd have a good figure. doesn't have to be exact.

I'm just kind of using the ref for a basic source - it doesn't need to be exact.
I'll add the shoulders. I'm just being lazy =P

Well, I met my deadline to have this done by midnight. It could certainly be improved, but it was mostly a learning opportunity. Thanks for the input, Julie and Eve =)

It looks very good, Ry. The skin and her eyes look very realistic. I'd maybe smudge the hair out a little, give it a more silky look. Love the style.

Also you might want to add a shadow of the hairline on the skin especially underneath the bangs/fringe ;) to give it more depth.

Lovely portrait, but I agree with Mai, a slight shadow under the hairline would give it more dimension.

You're right, I forgot about the shadow. I agree on the hair, Mae...the bad part is I was using Painter and I don't know how to do that yet >_< I'm gonna try to figure it out though.

Yeah I'd say smooth her hair out a bit. What is it exactly that you're trying to do? maybe I can offer some ideas.

Like smudgy in PS? I used the airbrush for this so I dunno how well the blending stumps would work. I tried them once and it was a disaster.

blending stumps work if you're picture is fairly large resolution. always make a new layer and work over your current image to test it. You'd probably want something like a fine line at about 40% ish opacity.

My working size was about 3000x4000 which is big for me, but maybe not in comparison to others. I'm gonna play with it on the hair on this one and see how it goes.

for something like this.. should be plenty big. the one I am working on right now is 4K x 4K.. though I think it might be a little small for a full figure.. hair is becoming a bear to get looking right.
