Wish me luck. ;)

The Smithsonian just called me back about my application to do volunteer work with them. I have to go interview, but if I make the cut I could be working behind the scenes with the Smithsonian.

*faints happily*

So, yeah, they let me in behind the big "cool people" doors. I give them 8 hours a week, they give me lots of practical experience and a good reference. :)

I'm working right now with the department of minerology, the division of rocks and ores. It's some seriously cool shit. I get to go to a fun lecture on June 2nd as well. The supervisor I work with wangled me in somehow even though I'm just a volunteer and it's a staff thing.

Anyhow, it's lots of fun... I came home last week with volcanic ash under my fingernails and some nice pumice-buffing on my palms.

My supervisor asked me to interview for a contract position with the Smithsonian two weeks ago.

I got called back today. They just hired me on a 6 month contract to work part time in rocks and ores, and part time in meteors.

I'm a bit shell-shocked. I had no idea I'd actually be working for the Smithsonian.

I can't stop grinning. ;)
