My son has ADHD I dealt with the hyperactivity at home and disagreed with the medications until he was in second grade. My son was behind all the other kids with all subjects, don't get me wrong my son is very smart we had him tested by 3 youth psychiatrist's all told us he had ADHD. He could not sit down to save his life, even at dinner he would take a bite or two and walk around the house if we made him sit down he would start shaking. He would run around the house til he would just drop and be sound asleep. After quite a long discussion with the doctors and my hubby we decided to try Adderall and my son is now in the top% of his grade he said he feels like a normal kid and that is all any parent could ever hope for. I have heard all the comments above and others. I don't feel like i medicate my child becasue I can't handle him, I do it because it is the one thing that "normalizes" (is that even a real word?) him and lets his thoughts flow without all the cluster and urgency he used to have.
I have a huge run-on paragraph there and hope you all understood it. Also when I read Maso's first post I LOL'd for a good 10 minutes
How many ADHD kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

I meant no hate, really, in my thread Vex...and Elvaiz. You have no idea how many times I heard how horrible we were for seeking meds, and that's just from our families. He has been diagnosed by 3 different doctors. The day in and day out hell was too much. He's just now calming down enough to focus on small things...which is a blessing. He still has his moments, and we weren't expecting a miracle cure (ok I was a little) but there has been a huge difference. Dealing with it every day is still a struggle, but something that I know will get better.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my post, I know it was a little harsh.

I see both sides of the issue. The kids really in need of help and the parents slapping meds in their kids to not have to deal with them. Unfortunately it seems that one comes with the other.
Schools like to label kids, it happens. Should it happen to yours, do your research, get a third opinion and try everything possible. Basically what the parents of ADD/ADHD kids above said. Of course the fact that they went to the trouble to seek more than one opinion, researched options and probably made life altering changes means they are not in this just to get the kid out of their hair.
Yes kids of divorce act out, normal kids act out and all can act hyper. Such is child hood and in todays world where kids no longer 'go outside to play' its more noticable.
