Clive Barker's "The Great and Secret Show"

So odd, that I got this book as a part of a "dead letter".

The book deals with a man who works at a post office, and steals "dead letters". Letters that are addressed to non-existent locations, or otherwise cannot reach their destination, and also do not include a return address.

I was working in a mail room, for the State of Maryland at the time I found this book. In a "dead package". It was christmas time, and we ... well we opened all the dead letters and took people's christmas money. I don't condone such activity, but in the case of these dead letters, they would have NEVER gotten it anyway. They get burned, or trashed in less than 30 days even though that is the standard "hold time".

Anyway, the guy starts to become less interested in finding money, than in reading people's letters. He starts to see patterns and realizes that somehow, someone...or thing is trying to communicate with him.

At some point he travels to a strange dimension and his soul is wripped into two parts, one good one evil, they both become gods, all types of crazy ill shite happens and the world is changed forever!!!!!!!

Seriously, read it it is good.

Ah Bartleby, ah humanity.

Story I read in the 12th grade about a guy who worked in the dead letter section. Its a story about how to heart he took all the misery that he read in these letters. That information about dead or dying relatives would never reach their loved ones. How out of touch we became as a society with our families and values.

'Ah Bartleby, ah humanity' was the last line.
