The progression servers - EQ1
Suck.
It is with great sadness that I once again cancel my eq accounts. Ok, kinda sad, not like deeply sad. Despite opening up servers that start you from the original release - it still can't capture that initial feeling you got when you loaded up your squarish barbarian and killed a goblin. The initial 'oh i got a fine steel sword' rush is gone.
People rushed to both the Combine and Sleeper servers yesterday, rusty swords in hand. Every zone I ran to had a minimum of 200+ level 1-5's. Let's ignore the fact that I got lost in Neriak :mad: and my tattered tunic was 3 sizes too large - the same ole dumbshits were yelling in ooc and people were ks'ing left and right. Yes, I know the population will taper down - but that old feeling just isn't there.
This isn't new. It's...recycled. The orcs were redone, the spiders were beautiful...hell even the moss snakes were sexy, but running around fighting 100 other people for a skeleton just didn't do it for me. So yeah, I think I'm out. I retired in Feb of '05 and went out with no regrets...there's just no going back.

I was sorta tempted, but I know eventually Id start realizing I was spending hours and hours a week to attain what I already had, and gave up 5 years ago. =p
I mean yeah, I loved EQ when I played it, but starting 'all over' without all 'the stuff I missed after I quit' doesnt necessarily appeal to me.
However, its cool that so many folks are so excited. ^-^

It's weird. Camping Orc 1, running from SG's like they were the end of the world embodied, selling HQ bear pelts in EC at the tunnel. Yeah. Weird. But still oh so fun.
Yesterday on the forth I was relaxing at Modo's new place, along with a few other of our friends who once, and now again play EQ. After spending time remembering the 'good ole days' of eq, the excitement of fear and hate break ins, sebilis and chardok raids, overthere gatehammers I came to the realization that every game since I've compared against EQ. Sure, I still get frustrated at CR's and lame PuG's but when I get that stupid small scarab breastplate it means something because all I am wearing is rawhide and my newbie tunic. At level 8.
The game is harder, more tedious and longer, but for every single one of these reasons it makes it more reqarding in my opinion.
No I'm not upset or even surprised that it isn't for everyone but I'm excited, am having fun and am getting to see things from a new light (one of a raider at this stage in the game as oppossed to a newb).
Just a counterpoint to mae's post :)

I'm with Geeii.. We've been playing and I've been having a BLAST.. the excitement when a piece of cloth armor drops, or the mad dash to grab a skellie I see carrying a cracked staff.. Now I know what I'm doing so it's fun to me. I have been and will always be a super casual gamer (4+ years in game and we barely got to 55) The frustration of too many people for the spwns is there, but it's not as bad in Qeynos as it was around GFay.

Meh, I'm having fun atm catching up on the raid material I never got to do. Maybe when I burn out (inevitable), I'll come hit up the progression servers with everyones favorite 12 year old boy, Geeii!

It might just be because when I started, I ran with Mike's new little bard. He's not here so it's not really interesting to me without him. COH is doing ok holding my attention, but only because i can get a group, kick some shit and then log after a mission or soloing for an hour. I dont know, I miss my huband nagging me to pay attention =D

So far I have been enjoying it. The population while still high seems to have tapered off quite a bit from the first few days, and it is taking a bit of ignoring the /occ idiots, (although I am getting quite a giggle out of the ones that whine about boxers when they see my girls run by)
If you get bored and feel like playing some roz just holler...I'm pretty casual and at least there'd be someone in my time zone then :P

Damn EQ. I would have been super casually playing this, but after attempting to copy the files and then patch it, it still wouldn't play. Screw EQ right now.

Do you have the directx update? As of the last patch direct x 9.0c is required to play eq.

Oh, there is another little screw you Sony statement in there. Yeah I loved being told that despite having DX 9.0c I didn't have the most up to date .dll.

Honestly,
I am just goofing off with Age of Empires 3, a little CoH, and maybe WoW once a week. I can't really progress to much more in WoW, because doing so would require a serious time investment each week, and I no longer have that any more. My job takes up between 55-60 hours of my week each week (some times more), getting married in September, and trying not to turn into a fatass and stay in shape has me pretty occupied. I need games that can let me sit down for an hour, play them, then log off.
Oh, and once I build my next computer, I will actually try to play Oblivion. That game made my gaming box lag a bit. And I don't want to play that game at 1024X768, I want it 1600x1200 and full on graphics, cuz its too pimp.

its been alright so far.. I love zoning into Blackburrow and seeing probably 200 player corpses.. gotta love that.. a '/hidecorpse all' is pretty much required.. it's not as fun as COV but hey its something me and temp can do together

If this server would have come around a few months ago when I started playing EQ again, I would have been all over it. But even playing casually the last few months I got my 4 box crew up to level 62-63. I'm not starting over yet again lol.
Plus, Civ3 (yes I know 4 is out but 3 went for 20 bucks at Wallyworld) takes some of my time as well.

Well, its natural that the zones are gonna be jam packed this early on. As people level and the level range gets a bit more sparse -- Then camps and zones will be alot more open to XP in and not as congested as they are now.
And alot of these people on these servers will quit after a period and otm back to their level 70 main w/ Anguish gear on their other server and that frees up room as well.
But yeah......I created a Necro on Sleeper to play some with Vulash and Grimknot and I couldnt kill anything.....The second a Moss Snake spawned in Nek Forest, 50 Dark Elves rushed it and gang raped it. It wasnt that fun heh.....I may end up playing my Necro a bit more after the zones arent as congested...We'll see.
Nek Forest had 200-250 screaming naked Dark Elves around the prime time hours....That was shocking to me to say the least.
