i totally just had a "hero" moment

Body:

Ok so I am traveling down Mentor Road on my merry way home when I spot a kid on his bicycle ahead of me and to my left. As he's peddling along, he glanced backwards because he sensed traffic coming behind him and got into the far lane. In the opposite lane from me, coming towards me and towards the unsuspecting 10 year old kid, was a later model Dodge Stratus around the curve.

Well to make a long story short, the car tried to slow down too late and struck the child at about 30 miles an hour and he immediately flipped over the front of the car and smashed (luckily ass first) into the windshield and flipped over the side of the road and busted his head. As soon as this happened I immediately called 9-11 and told them what had happened.

The driver of the Stratus, whom was a early 40-ish year old woman got out of the car rather disoriented (which didn't strike me odd at that moment, given what had just happened) and tried to talk me out of calling the cops. So I was like, "Fuck you bitch, get the fuck away from your car and the kid" and continued on with the 9-11 operator. Well the woman who was driving the car was walking around all sporadically and at this point I knew something was goin on with her that was making her act weird, and it wasn't the accident that just happened.

So I ran over to her car and switched her ignition off and put her keys in my pocket when she was walking back and forth. Immediately thereafter, she tried to get in her car and drive off. I guess then she knew what the fuck was up, and she began to run off into the field next to where the accident happened. At this point some of the people who lived near where the accident had showed up and watched where she ran and within a couple of minutes the police officers finally showed up ahead of the ambulance. I immediately let them know what happened and one of them attended to the little boy (with whom which...this makes me chuckle in retrospect....as soon as the car came to a stop and he popped right back up....was worried he was going to get in trouble about riding his bike in the road --- and not at possibly being badly injured and in need of a few stitches on his head) while the other tracked down the drugged-out woman.

Well as the ambulance showed up, the child's father had luckily just headed home from work and ran over to make sure everything was ok. As they were loading the boy up on the stretcher and making sure his neck was stable for examination the other cops had returned with the fleeing woman in tow.

I sat and watched as the woman (who ran because she had 2 warrants for failure to appear to court and also didn't possess a driver's liscense) get escorted into the back seat of the squad car. They told me to kinda hang around so they could ask me exactly what I saw and while waiting, another officer searched this crazy bitch's car. They found a bunch of oxycottins and some crystal meth, along with some other miscellaneous pills.

Needless to say, after this whole thing, I have a new respect for our police officers and especially ambulance drivers. I know there is the occassional asshole cop who may smart off to you during a traffic stop or similar altercation, but for the most part, these guys do a really shit job and don't get paid much to do said job.

So if you are reading this and might know a police officer, thank them. I know I am. These police officers were swift and very professional and commended me for snatching that bitch's keys (lol, I had thought I was gonna kinda get into some shit for that - you never know with today's legal process).

*Hoorah for Mizen*
Ditto Mylec -- cool heads in times like that can be rare. That little boy, as well as who knows who all else, have you to thank for possibly stopping further damage. Now if they would only impound that woman's car (taking away her license did no obvious good!:P), the roads would remain safer!
Gah!

wow WTF I just saw this.

::blushes::

Thanks. But I am sure it's not anything that anyone else would have done. The little boy is ok though. I drove by his house on Wednesday to check on him.
