The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower is a series by Stephen King. But before you click back on your browser let me say its not his normal works. People that dont like S.K. Love DT series because its a mix. There is fighting, but the main character is a "Gunslinger", so its guns. There is dragons, and fairly like things, horror, blood, epic fantasy, time travel, and about anything else in this series. It has it all, and I loved them all. I read all the books (I wanna say 8 in all, but may be 7) in a lil over a year. Most of them are around 700 pages, but some go around 900 or more. EAch time I had to wait on another I counted every second till the next was released. It was my fave series of all time, but Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is coming in a close second.

I first read the Dark Tower when I was about 14. Then I read it again a couple years later because I just skimmed over the damn thing. =/ (I did that with Dune too...god who knew how good that book was?!)

I wanted to marry Roland. :o 'There are other worlds than these'. I stopped reading them I think around the 4th book. I should reread them again, the third one was incredible. The train one just slowed down on me though. But the first 3 were f9cking amazing.

The third one was the train one, unless you are talking about the climax of that situation in the fourth one. The fourth one was my fave, and Song of Suzannah.

Give the fourth one a try again if you didnt like it the first time. ITs a very nice story, Roland tells of his young years and how he got started and fell in love to a spoken for girl....

Its great.

Did he finish the series? I read 3 or 4 of them years ago. I stopped on wizards and glass.

Yes its finished now. Id tell you all the names but my mother has the books and I cant recall them all atm, I know after W&G it was Wolves of the Calla, then Song of Suzannah, then ... I cant remember the name to the last one =/.

Ok scratch that I found the book.. Its First was Gunslinger, second was The Drawing of the three, the third was The Waste Lands, the Fourth was Wizard and Glass, the fifth was Wolves of the Calla, then Song of Susannah, then the last was just The Dark Tower. It was a great series tho.

K wait, the first one the kid dies. The 2nd one is where he picks them all up, right? Isn't the third one where they go to some house? Or is that the 2nd? Or no wait, the 3rd one its him, the woman and the druggie and they travel TO the train. The 4th one is when they're on it, right? Its the one where they're on it that I couldnt finish.

K yeah I do need to read them again lol.

The series goes into a sad slide after book four... the last three were written after King's automobile accident, and his brush with death left him desperate to hurry through the last three books. Unfortunately, doing so involved his writing himself into the series as a character and a lot of hackneyed meta-fiction bullshit that I've seen done better by writers of significantly madder skillz.

You just need to find something you ENJOY reading. It worked for my brother. He didn't pick up a book to read for pleasure until he was 15 years old. I had got him into fantasy gaming and it lead to him going out and picking up a fantasy series to read on his own. He's still not the reader I am, but he does read for pleasure occasionally.

I read the first four in a week long sitting when I was sick as a dog about five years ago. I seem to remember wanting to marry Eddie for some reason. I think there was a serious block with Roland, which may have prevented me from really loving the books. I liked the story very much, and while there were a few nitpicky things I didn't really enjoy it was for the most part pretty good. I think the people who love that series "get" Roland in a way that I just don't :\.

I do like the books well enough that I had intended to read the rest. Not really thrilled to hear about the direction it takes though :\.
