Suggestions on a new mmorpg.

Hi pals. I recently quit wow after raiding in it since release and am wanting to pick up a fairly casual game that I can enjoy. Ive been considering EQ2 because I havent played it since early WoW and I only got to level 17 at the time, I'd heard it has changed significantly since then? Anyone else playing EQ2 and recommend it for someone whos done with WoW? I heard Vanguard is junk.

Surprisingly enough -- EQ1 has more subscribers then EQ2 does (sorta goes to show how they bombed out on EQ2 as a whole and how huge of a mistake it was to begin with) Ive never played EQ2 so I cannot comment on it directly but I do know these are facts.

WoW is still the best casual mmorpg on the market. Vanguard is EQ1 all over again with timesinks etc and camps and such. And EQ, well EQ is EQ!

EQ2 is a very good casual game. There are more quests to do than there are in WoW, so you never hit a dry spell in levelgrinding. You can solo as pretty much any class. They have acorns for houses too. I am actually considering going back while I wait for Age of Conan / Warhammer Online.

Vanguard is so -not- EQ1. I played it for 3 weeks, every day, got to lvl 26. that was even with a friend PLing. He's been playing nonstop since release and is only 48.

There's nothing casual at all about Vanguard. It will be a good game in 6 months, but that does us new-game hunters zero good now.

EQ2 has come a real long way since its release. I'd give it another try.

There's Dark age of Camelot ( if you like pvp ) and Anarchy Online, but its graphics are a bit dated

That sounds just like EQ pre Kunark

perhaps so Vulash, i never made it past lvl 20 pre-kunark :

But its just like EQ1 in the way that you need a group to do everything. and many Many hours. It takes -forever- to travel around, horse or not.

Yea I just pointed it out because I think their main focus from what i've heard was to try to get back to EQ before kunark in all the areas that mentioned. I think they felt that even though people said they hated it - the difficulty made the accomplishment more worth it, and the turnover rate from a much easier game (WoW) was very high despite that being what people said they wanted. I don't play MMOs anymore so I'm not giving an opinion - I just think that was their mindset.

yeah. i think they failed to realize you can't expect people who drive cars now to go back to horse & carriage (fulltime) and enjoy it.

While I can handle slower levelling than WoW, only gating once an hour, not being able to bind anywhere and get back to what i was doing after i repair ( which is once every couple hours of grinding ), taking literally ( i timed it ) 40minutes to get to an xp spot, even after using teleporters... its insane... and that is only at lvl 25.

i know they didn't have a choice to release it because of money issues. It just sucks because it really crippled the potential playerbase.

making the game bearable 6 months from now doesn't solve anyone's MMOg woes now.

I was looking forward to it.

Instead, I look @ Warhammer. I know Mythic makes great PVP games so I know WHO is going to rock

I love eq2 my self.
I did play wow but it didnt keep my interest up long enough and plus I didnt know alot of people at the time on the game as I did with eq2.

I also like city of villian

My only beef I have with any game is SWG.. *sighs* I loved that game soo much until they slaughtered it
