Yet Another Remake We Don't Need
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/070416h.php
It remains one of THE most formative films of my youth, so the idea of a remake has disgusted me - until news like this came along. It seems that Lawrence Kasdan is set to pen the remake of the 1981 cult Greek mythology classic "Clash of the Titans" for Warner Bros. Pictures says Reuters.
The story revolves around Zeus' son, Perseus, and his journey to save Princess Andromeda during which he must complete various tasks set out by Zeus, including capturing Pegasus and slaying Medusa.
Harry Hamlin, Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress, Claire Bloom, Susan Fleetwood, Siân Phillips and Burgess Meredith all starred in the original. The project marked the final film on which stop-motion animation master Ray Harryhausen did the special effects.
Whilst not as acclaimed as Harryhausen's earlier effort "Jason and the Argonauts", 'Clash' has developed a more devout fanbase over the years thanks to its darker tone, stellar cast, and arrival at the start of the home video boom.
"Titans" marks Kasdan's first true fantasy-style project since the early 1980s, when he wrote the screenplays for "Return of the Jedi," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark." He's not perfect either however, penning the script for the odious 2003 Stephen King adaptation "Dreamcatcher."
Travis Beacham ("Killing on Carnival Row") wrote a draft back in early 2006 which was said to have downplayed the God and mythical elements (ala "Troy") in favour of a more dark and realistic approach.
The original was sold as a family film, complete with a cute R2-D2 esque robot owl, yet featured enough blood, gore and nudity that several shots probably wouldn't pass a PG-13 label these days.
There was talk that the studio would dump the Mt. Olympus scenes altogether, one of the original film's signature elements, but with Kasdan involved now it's not sure if that approach will still hold.
Hollywood needs to be shut down.
... After Transformers and HP7 make it through the gates.

you have got to be joking. Clash was one of the first true fantasy films - remaking it would be an insult. and to downplay the whole Gods angle ruins the story - this is a myth. without the gods being involved, you don't get the whole picture. that was one of the aspects of Troy that annoyed me - not even Homer left out the role the gods played, but hollywood did. idiots. i'm really starting to think there are no more orginal ideas out there in movieland....

The original ideas come after they decide they're gonna rip off an old idea. Then they come up with all sorts of interesting ways to completely miss the point of the earlier work and make it X-TREME 2 DA MAX.

I am of two minds. I love this film SOOOO much. I would be beyond pissed if they did a remake and it made a mockery of the original. *However* I would love to see the exact same story told with modern technology. If they leave out the Gods and the Mt Olympus aspects then no way will I go see this. It's the Greek mythos of the Gods and their petty squabbles and vices that make it interesting.
I was SO dissapointed in the way they did Troy without them. I mean that was the entire plot vehicle.. the Gods' conniving and manipulation of the men that shaped the story and was a big piece of the motivation. It was.. lackluster.. without that aspect. Clash without them would be SO bad.

there gonna leave out the gods, and medusa...and the kracken.. oh and greece.. and they'll set it in new york... in 1979.. and the part of persus will be played by mark walberg.. and he'll be John Persus hard boiled cop on the edge.. out to kill Caine Calaabos, drug dealer.. who is protected from on high, by the attorney general, who's actually his mom!
instead of a mechanical owl as a sidekick he's gonna have Carlos Mencia..

My favorit saying " If it's not broke don't fix it."
I could list so many remakes that have made me shake my head.
