SPR05 - The Fruit of Knowledge

Traditionally the fruit that tempted first Eve, then Adam, and led to the fall of man, is portrayed as an apple, but most will say that the fruit from the tree of knowledge is unique. What do -you- think the fruit of ultimate temptation would look like?

What are you talking about? That's pretty dang cool. What's it suppose to be? A prickly pear of seduction??!!!

hehe I guess. I thought about knowledge and how I would want to eat a fruit if it was knowledge. And immediately thought it needed fur moreso than a kiwi and should be spotted as well. Then I figured one could juice a fruit of knowledge not by squishing it but by sucking on the points it conveniently grew. And viola! Thats what ya got. haha

Since the challenge is fruit, I simply had to represent.

Yours looks really medieval, Cali, and Iove that it shows both the temptation and the danger.

Actually a lot of thought went into that design. I was thinking that there are many types of knowledge and to represent that, the fruit would be something similar to grapes. I also figured that it would have to be something pretty and enticing to get Eve's attention. So, flowers. Since the verse I grew up with calls it the tree of knowledge, I came up with something kin to the Japanese cherry tree.

It is a beautiful image and it does look enticing -- almost as if the fruit is just begging to be taken. I meant no disrespect about your drawing, which is actually very lovely.

They all look interesting. Its nice to see the different interpretations of something so iconic as the fruit of knowledge. Thank you for sharing your reasoning, Rae. That makes a lot of sense.

Some of my favorite fruits are the ones that are a completely different color on the inside than what you expect by looking at the outside, blood oranges, plums, etc, and I think that the juiciest fruits are usually the rounder ones, so my Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge is roundish, purple and blood red inside.

Sarah: I know what you mean! I like fruit that isn't all that it seems. Custard apples are one of those. They don't even look edible LOL

Wystro: Ohh its like a happy mango of dewm! LOL just with your accent lines it looks abit like a mango comet coming to smoosh us all in mango juice... actually that isn't a bad thing...!!!

Rae: Forgive me my initial response... maybe it had to do with my having been lurking in the Goober Forum. If cherries came in clusters like that, there is no way anyone would resist. The flowers are very appropriate.

Cali: Its HAIRY omg! And pointy! /giggle I really liked your description of how you got to that end result. I dunno if a hairy fruit would entice me :P but I enjoyed the story nonetheless

Sad that it took so long for such a plain looking fruit. lol

When I first read the myth of Persephone I had no idea what a pomegranate was, so I just sort of formed my own mental image. I always thought that must be the most tempting fruit, to make her break her hunger strike, and thus an association was formed between my image of a pomegranate and the fruit of knowledge. You can imagine my disappointment when I discovered that pomegranates are kind of odd looking, lumpy things, but I still like them .
