i signed up for santa and it wasn't so bad. but i just don't really enjoy making stuff for complete strangers.

Who's doing it? I haven't done one since...crap the spring one? I never have time and...well there are things about it that kinda bug me. Plus I'm not that creative, it would just be a red sig from me, I'm sure lol. I know Gilae wants to sign up, we've been trying to pad her posts all day :teehee.

I love these things, they are such a great way to flex the old creative muscles, work out the kinks of a new style, or try something completely different. Those things are also why I do art exchanges.

There's a website that a bunch of the artists that come to Mae's site post on: http://www.norrathsstudio.com/phpBB4ns/index.php
For Christmas and Valentines day and Halloween...and I think a few other holidays...they do a secret art exchange. It's run by the admins of the site. Everyone posts that they're interested in doing an exchange and then they pick someone else to do one for and submit a piece of art about that persons character (for whichever game). It's a chance to improve one's own art in addition to getting something neat and pretty for yourself and to see how other people interpret the same theme. I dunno...just seemed fun to me.
But I can't get in on it because I have under 100 posts on that site. I don't know how it is I can have 1000s on every other site in the known universe but I'm all quiet on that one. The other issue is of course that you end up working on art for someone you don't really know. Thus my suggestion that we do it here instead :)

I'm participating just to feel special. The secret santa this year turned out pretty well and since the restrictions on entering are pretty limited, I shouldn't end up with a kid's doodle on a piece of notebook paper again.

I've done 3 and my gifts were beautiful. I had oyye, zindi and...crap. Someone I dont think posts anymore but did a really cool Saryn spiked bed thing for me. I'm just hestitant to do it since I'm horrible with pressure and due dates. I STRESS. Also it always seems like the popular people get the freehanders =/ Its not a random pick like I thought it was, they assign people. I dont know, just rubs me the wrong way. I fully encourage everyone else to do it for the sheer fun that it can be. =)

No, they really do assign them randomly. We had this whole big discussion about it when we had the Dallas dinner thing in September. I just have crappy luck I guess and I sure can't afford a commission because I'm a broke ass too.

It may have been Pedi that told me that or even Mappy. Was after my last exchange, I think it was the halloween 03 one. If its random now, that's awesome, but look at the last couple and see who got the freehanders.

Admittedly I got super ass lucky with Oyye and Zindi. Although at the time we were all still newish to the board. It was before Oyye started busting out her l33t stuff, same with Zindi.
