I've actually watched this one before. It is pretty creepy, especially the guys that marry their dolls and share their lives with them. One of the guys just uses the dolls for sex, which is still pretty weird but at least it makes sense. The other guys, though, are scary. I'm really glad that they have these dolls because it allows them to just live quietly in seclusion and never come in contact with other people. Imagine what these guys might do if they didn't have a doll to release their sexual frustrations on.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say this is fucked up. I try to be open minded but I sincerely think this is perpetuating some pretty disturbing outlooks on love, relationships, and women. Although all the men in the documentary had slightly different takes on the whole thing, the fact that they call these dolls 'female companionship' is just so wrong headed that I can't make sense of it. I think the girlfriend of the repair guy had it right in one respect - these things are -not real-.

And this is coming from someone who tends to personify inanimate objects. I don't like it when the kid carries stuffed animals by the tail, for example - it seems like a casual cruelty to me. I will admit I was most repulsed by the man who keeps his dolls in the garage unless he wants to masturbate with them (I refuse to say that any of those men are 'having sex'), while I mostly pitied the man who took great care in dressing his dolls up and making sure they were in good condition. It did bother me that he (the Brit) was basically looking at much younger women and saying 'see, these women are unobtainable, I'm better off with my doll'. Most of these men seemed to have no interest in having a relationship with an equal, which is inherently disturbing to me, especially considering how young the dolls look.

The best thing that could be said about this whole thing is, I think, that they aren't hurting anyone but themselves, which is more than I can say for some aspects of the porn industry. But that's another rant :).

I don't know...I got the impression that guy wasn't being totally honest about his 'relationship' with his dolls. I mean, he goes shopping for women's clothing for them, ffs. Seems like he's putting an awful lot of effort into recreating his fantasies. Heh, everyone's gotta have a hobby I guess.

I wonder why they didn't talk about male realdolls. I could venture a guess and say that they might have a harder time getting women to talk about this sort of thing, but that's only a guess.

I should have added a 'most' qualifier before my comment on how young the dolls look. The ones they showed had, to me, distinctly adolescent features. Just a little whipped cream on top of the squick pie.
