I should have known that Britney Spears' big Video Music Awards performance would have been uncomfortable to watch the moment it opened, with that closeup of the weave tracks in the back of her head (seriously, MTV camera folks, didja think that was a flattering angle?). But I wasn't quite prepared for the awkward mess in store, as Britney gallumphed around like a zombie while lip-synching to her new single, "Gimme More."
I was really rooting for Britney to be awesome and get the show off on the right foot. And by all rights, she should have rocked  "Gimme More" has been received amazingly well (it's no "Toxic," but admit it, it's better than you expected)  and we have all those fond memories of Brit Brit from VMAs past (with the python, with Madonna and Xtina). But instead of watching a sexy, exciting performance  a resounding statement that yes, she IS Britney, bitch  I saw a tentative, confused-looking girl who could barely muster the energy to mouth along with the backing track, let alone work those stilleto boots. Britney, if you're gonna lip-synch, at least be entertaining!
PopWatchers, am I being too harsh?

Wow, can you say 'lackluster'? The audience didn't even look excited, but then how could they when Britany looked like she was barely involved herself.

I actually feel bad for her. She looked confused, nervous and ... just not a star anymore. She has completely lost it, but it's not like she's helping herself with all the shit she does in the media. Girl needs to take a year off, get out of hollywood, be a mom and get some help =/

I heard on the radio that she was blaming it on Sarah Silverman - she apparently found out before she went out that the comedian was going to rip into her pretty badly when she finished her performance, and she was too upset to do a good job.

You know...this has been her life...performing. If she doesn't have the ability to deal with things people say about her, first off she needs to quit giving them fodder to do so, and second, yea, she needs to keep her ass out of the limelight until she can again.

To make matters worse for Spears, raunchy comedian Sarah Silverman took the stage next and proceeded to bury her. "She is amazing," Silverman said. "She is 25 years old and has already accomplished everything she is going to accomplish in her life."
Then Silverman added a doozy: "Have you seen Britney's kids? They are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see." That wasn't the end of it, but the rest of her remarks weren't suitable for a family newspaper.
Yeah this is popping up everywhere.

I didn't feel bad for her. She chose not to even sing her song ffs. I can make excuses for people who dance alot in their act, like Chris Brown did, but her act was mostly other people dancing around her while she looked like a misplaced cow. The entire time she was on stage I yelled at the tv. I know, I'm a mean girl. But she's talentless and some one needs to give her a dose of reality. She is so over produced, the song was terrible, the act was terrible. The only good thing about it was the audience reaction, or lack there of.
To make a come back she needed to wow people, really floor them, and to me she just did the same shit she did 4 years ago and it was weak back then. I dunno....I honestly hoped and expected her to do better.

A little more of Silverman's monologue - her site crash from apparently being overloaded, I bet.
She continued: “It’s weird to think that just a few years ago on this very show, she was this, like, sweet innocent little girl in slutty clothes writhing around with a python. That’s not nice…calling Madonna a python.”
Even Spears’ sons, Jayden and Sean, who turn 1 and 2 next week, respectively, were fare game.
“Have you seen Britney’s kids? Oh my god, they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see!” Silverman trilled. “They are as cute as the hairless vagina they came out of.”

uh... wow. Ouch. I've been anti-Britney ever since she showed up at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards dressed like she just stepped off the street corner... this is bad; yet I read recently that she still rakes in like 700k PER WEEK. So, maybe she really didn't care

Gave up watching the vid barely half way through. Horrible. The partying she did the night before didn't help either. She needs to get her damn personal life on track, which these days in young hollywood is almost impossible. Then she needs to relearn how to sing. I don't think she's ever sang live since the Mickey Mouse Club or if not then, Star Search.
As for Silverman's comments, trash Brit all you like but leave her kids out of it. They didn't choose their parents.

I was really surprised at her lack of effort. I think she psyched out herself too much that she took the obvious fall that she was expecting. Silverman attacking her kids, however famous Britney is, is in poor taste. Attack the person, not the loved ones (unless they choose to be in the public eye as well). It's a cheap shot.

I heard on the news this morning that her original act was scrapped fairly last minute so this was a quickly thrown together replacement. Apparently she'd been working with Cris Angel (the magician) to do something but the hotel where the show was taking place baulked and said something like their insurance wouldn't cover it.
And on the radio this morning some teenage twit actually phones in complaining Brit was too fat to wear what she did. Umm looking at that picture she looks damn good for having had 2 kids and I think yeah she isn't 17 anymore but she doesn't look bad at all. I would commit mass murder for a body like that.
As for her lip synching, I can't fault her for doing what she always does.

Britney looks fucked up and I speak from experience. She looks like a girl whose in a night club late at night trying to dance who is too out of it to keep up with the music. I do not know what shes on but shes is clearly not all together sober.
Sarah Silverman never lets an easy target get by. Its Brits attorneys and publicist fault for not getting Silverman to agree to leave certain topics off limits. She also ripped Paris a new ass on her last public appearance pre-jail. Brit had to know she was going to be the target of choice.

Ohh I thought she was just drunk and forgot to get dressed ... Can tell shes been out of pratice for awhile ... Out of shape, out of breath half through the song .. Granted all the lights that are bouncing around on stange packs a punch . But please .. shes still a skank and her performance stank ~! o.O

She's not fat, she just doesn't have the body to wear an outfit like that any more. If you compare her to the average 25 year old girl, she looks pretty good, but if you compare what she actually looks like to what she seems to think she looks like, she is definitely fat and busted.
