Mychel WIP : c/c please?

Been working on this pic for X's EQ2 high elf shadowknight and I'm really pleased except a couple things bug me and I'm hoping fresh eyes can tell me if I'm just being too critical?

Does the large spell effect on the upper orc seem too bright? I've tried making it black and purple but I want it to blend with the one on his hand and also the black blocks a lot more and I lose a lot of the detail in the spell effect (these are primarily from a Light & Magic kit, not really my own BTW) Should I try something darker? My fear is the lightness draws too much of the focus from him. Also I kind of got lazy and didn't work the metals and such on the upper orc as much.. do they need more or do they look OK? I'm thinking of going in and adding a lot of shadows for drama but would that make it too dark? And.. is it too dark or do the details come out good? Now for the blood.. on the sword and on the ground.. does it look OK? And his sword is bothering me since it's not shiny but I can't think of a light source that would have it glinting...?

Update : 12-16-07

Added : dramatic light from the spell effects, shadows, glint on sword, brightened up his armor from the light.

Bleh now I am not sure if I overdid it with the spell light and lost the dark feel of the scene? And should I do some light on the back wall? I'm afraid of losing the foreward focus possibly?

credits include M3 w/ Bishonen morphs & Kurt hair in Fantasy Armor with Ornate texture, Freak in Hercules, Light & Magic effects, pieces from Midieval Tavern, Dungeon.. ask if there's something specific =)

I have no problems with the brightness, but it should reflect more off his armor I think. If its that dazzling, his armor and face should really be lit up. Spells ARE dazzling, afterall :) A pissy little flicker wouldn't lift an orc off the ground like that IMO.

I love it already, but I think it could do with a lil brightening on him from the spell like Tam said. Maybe deepening the shadows will up the contrast a bit for ya too and help ;)

I agree , Totally love the piece. Spell effect needs more well .. effect on surroundings? lol The gold armor on the guy on the floor kinda pulls some attention mayne grunger it up so make it look battle worn? :)

I don't know jack about poser/daz but I can tell you I really like where you are going with this. The light/spell efftect area in the upper right corner is abit distracting visually. It really draws my eye away from the main character. Speaking of main character... DAMN! you did a really good job! I don't see alot of action shots in 3d that impress me but this one really does! There's tons of motion and it looks pretty naturual too!

in postwork you can take a grunge brush and just dab it over the armor ( I would prolly do skin too, but thats personal preference) on a low opacity and itll give it a little worn look. if it looks too flat then I just dab at it with light/dark or burn/dodge tool.

thats how I did this trolll to look so ugly, and the hip portion of his armor to match the rest of it ( it was a super shiny bright thing) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v386/lulerianiel/lessa/?action=view¤t=Contesamagelo2.jpg
