Arizona Houses for Rent?

Hiya!

Soooo..... I've almost been convinced by my husband to move to Arizona; specifically he wants to see what's cookin (haha, bad pun) in the Phoenix area. Not much other than family tying us here, and financially we're screwed in any case, so it can't be any worse in that regard. We have decent-ish jobs here, but Maine S U C K S.

Anyway! I was wondering if anyone might have links to places where I might be able to research houses for rent and such in that area. I'd MUCH prefer a house, after having lived where we are for almost 13 years, but an apartment would do in a pinch...

Anyone know of any sites offhand? I'd love pics and details, since we'd kinda be flying blind from this far away... :)

Thanks in advance! :hug

You might try looking at the area newspapers to see what they have. Most newspapers have online classifieds and such.

http://www.azcentral.com/class/real/rentals.php Housing rentals in the local newspaper there. BTW you're nuts! AZ is hot! :P Lessa just moved from around there so maybe she'd have more of an idea. Also alot of real estate places also list housing rentals so you may want ot put out a few emails to local real estate agents and see if they have any advice.

Gah some of those places cost more than my mortgage :|

Believe me, this is NOT my idea. I was kinda rooting for Virginia, but apparently it's the most humid, horrible, hurricaney place ever ;)

And thank you for the link! We'll have to take a peek tonight :hug

I looked at some of the areas on the list. Not a ton of pics to go with the links so nfc what anywhere looks like. But contacting a real estate agent might also give you some ideas on schools, crime, etc.

Also might try some of the suburbs/small towns around the Phoenix area. They are CONSTANTLY building new ones it seems. Everytime Ryan and I go back to Phoenix, some new town has sprang up.

That's one of the MAJOR things I'm hoping to find out, what the "good areas" are as opposed to the "bad areas" to avoid. I certainly can't afford to live among the high muckety muck, not even close, but I don't want to live in a place where you need bulletproof fashions, ya know?

Only way you'd have to worry bout hurricanes in VA is on the coast really. Western and Southern VA are really pretty. Where I am about two hours south of DC, it's humid enough I spose, but it's been really mild this winter at least ;) The only thing you have to worry about around here is the cost of living blows. Hubby's company actually has a backup facility out there in Phoenix. Wish we could transfer out there cuz he'd get paid the same as here, and the cost of living is a lot less I guess. Gah! Take me wif you!

I wouldnt move to phoenix.. its a huge.. huge city and everything is brown out there, summers are uncomfortable, and polution is icky, the only nice thing about it is its winter weather really and the city is so huge that if you needed or wanted anything, youd prolly find it.

Ive lived there my whole life, its pretty expensive, but not sure its worse than where youre at? The house we just sold was in a better area of town and about 300k for a gated community, 3 bedroom house near a great school. Thats on the east side, near chandler ad scottsdale and gilbert. Youd want to avoid central phoenix, its the worst part of town, worst violence, worst traffic, worst housing, the outskirts have the nicer neighborhoods and homes but itll mean more expensive rent and longer drives to work through traffic.

Anyway ive just moved from there and ive lived there all my life , the only reason i stayed as long as I did was because of my family ( i lubs them) My sister in law works for a realtor there and I believe he has houses for rent I can see if she has any good sites I can link for you.

:hug Lessa, thank you, that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for is "hands on" experience. I would greatly, GREATLY appreciate any info you can give me. AND I'm going to pass everything you've said on to my husband. I mean, we're from MAINE for cryin' out loud. I think we'd all die of culture shock if nothing else, backwater hicks that we are. "Cities" here are just towns with a couple more stores. The whole state has a total of three malls... *sigh*

Ok, Phoenix is big, you can prolly look up a demographics site like cityscape or something to see just how big, but all around it are other cities which makes it even bigger, unlike the east coast towns, phoenix grows out, not up, most apartments dont go over two to three stories, the desert is so big people would rather not live piled on top of each other. Crime is bad, traffic is bad, immigration is terrible. The summer is about 6 months long, may through october or so starting to hit the 90s in may and up into the triple digits june through september. July and august are the worst, getting up into the one hundred teens many days and itll prolly not drop below the 90s as a low even at night, and the monsoon storms come in bringing blowing dust storms and humidity.

It would take me about an hour on your average day, fair traffic to drive from my house ( east side of phx, to my mothers house ( west side of phx) on the freeway, and we lived about 20 or 30 miles apart, if that gives you an idea of the span.

If you must move there, I highly highly reccomend you move someplace in the Kyrene school district, the schools are downright awesome and the teachers are wonderful. Ive never had an issue with them or any of my kids there and they go out of their way to make it a good place for them. And its generally a nicer area of town ( chandler/ahwatukee area)

oh, Niekra lives there too, so you could prolly ask her about it as well!
