Round 3 Mafia Hit - Yo Ho Ho and a Barrel of Rum
Another day, another port. There was much to do before the tiny vessel could leave. First task was to make one final bribe to the Harbormaster. A greedy man only too eager to help himself to a share of a pirates gold. The bribery had three stages. First was the town government, then came the local law enforcement, and lastly the harbormaster. All could make trouble for a pirate if the proper palms were not greased. That was the pirate's life.
As the Captain left the harbormaster's office, a young messenger handed him sealed note. Before he could inquire about the sender, the boy was gone. Perplexed, the Captain studied the note for a long time before breaking the seal. It was the black spot. The Captain had been marked. He barely had time to register what this was before he was struck from behind.
The Captain awoke groggily with a fierce ache in his skull. The smell of salt and the sound waves told him that he was at see. This however was clearly not his boat. His assailants stood before him somber and mirthless. The drawing of swords made their intent quite clear. There was a small chance to escape the boney hand of death if he were clever.
" You can kill me however you like. just please please don't make me walk the plank."
Brief glances and smiles played across his would be killers. Moments later the Captain faced the point of a sword in front and the waiting sea behind.
" Please please don't make me walk the plank"
Giving the appearance of resignation, the Captain heaved a great sigh and fell from the plank. Captain John 'Squirrel Lips' Jessop was grateful for the extra buoyancy the his replaced ribcage provided. It was keeping him afloat long enough to climb on the back of a sea turtle headed to shore.. Slowly the Captain moved away from those who wished him ill and made his way to shore, where he would live to sail another day.
The Elusive Princess circled the island keeping it between him and the group of ships as they departed. Its captain has seen the group approaching and decided it was better to lie low and let them pass. While this had helped him go unnoticed, he, was not able to get a good look at the flags of any of the ships.
With the pack now pulling away into the distance the Capitan felt he could finally return to his coarse. It was then he spotted someone, or really something crawling up on the shore. As he looked through the spyglass, Captain Rich realized the person on shore was a captain he had seen in port.
Was he dumped here because of his vote? No matter, marooning someone on an island did not sit right with Captain Bloody Rich. He had been there before and if not for the help of others he would still be there. This was as good a time as any to repay his karma.
The captain had his crew prepare the row boat, a single sail dingy and a couple of days provisions. They went to work quickly. Many of them knew what it was like to be that person on shore with only fading hope to keep you alive.
Richard rowed toward shore towing the dingy behind, and as he approached the island he called out, over the wind.
"Dumping someone on an island to die is a cowards way of killing them. If they were so sure of your crime they should have run ya through on the spot, and not leave your death to chance."
"I have seen ya around the port, and while I am not sure I want ya on my ship I can offer up craft that will let you make your way to port, a bit of food, and two bottles of rum. The waters ahead are dangerous, ya might want to use one of the bottles to christen your new craft."
The Captain, pushed the dingy toward shore. It had seen better days, and if the captain did reach the end of the race, he could always get a shinny new one.
"If you see the ones that did this to ya, feel free to call on me."
