Round 8: OOC

Yar, heave ho and other pirate talk to be done here.

When only 2 out of us all have bolded text, and it is quite a noticable thing. I seem to remember the word slip from slipnish being a valid clue in a previous mafia, and would be willing to bet Four Winds and the four ships approaching with sails thing could have been similarly... so I don't think they are always solely in character / in world clues and I would certainly seriously consider this.

It also happens that out of all the living players, the bold clue cuts it down to the two quietest, most "under the radar" SKey style players still alive, and IMO the most likely culprits (speaking purely behaviourly, or what I presume from previous games about how the SK behaves) when ignoring the bold clue.

We might be wrong, but I see no reason why it might not be a valid clue.

You seriously think because someone copy/pasted the the bio part of the original post on that thread and then added their own stuff without paying attention to the fact that it was in bold is a clue? Wow.

How the bios actually got to be bold in the first place is neither here nor there. The fact that they ARE bold is the point here.

I see absolutely no reason for this not to be seriously considered.
lemmy101 15 years ago
I would also add that you are the most "under the radar" SKey out of the two of you, so understandable you might be quick to dismiss that as not a real clue!
Verileah 15 years ago
I was looking at the 'we haven't been brave in a while' with the 'let's be bold' and thinking that was referring to someone who had been hiding well for most of the game. I didn't even -think- about bold=bold text, and, similar to my 'nick is the sk even though it's physically almost impossible' theory, it could be genius or it could be idiocy.

Anyway, I have a thing I have to go to. I haven't made up my mind on who to vote for, but I'll be back before the thread closes.

Okay, clues vs. Blackwater:

------------------

SK Hit 1

a) Silent ship:

SK Hit 1
A voice echoed faintly in the distance, hollow against the vastness of the ocean but still near enough to be heard, which meant its owner was close, very close.

and...
Blackwater bio
His ship is fast, silent, and light, attacking with deadly stealth and speed. Merchant ships are often times boarded and taken over before the ominous flag is ever seen.

b) Focus on sinking ship:
SK Hit 1
The ocean held many secrets beneath the ever changing waves. The true fate of the Catfish and her crew would only be known by the guilty few, for soon there would be little sign of her struggle to stay afloat.

and...

Blackwater bio
its crew sent to the depths below, ship and cargo plundered and sold.

SK Hit 2

a) Shocking appearance:

SK Hit 2
Turning back towards the entrance, the Captain found herself facing another figure but had very little time to register more than shock.

and...

Blackwater bio
adding to his savage appearance, shining black eyes peering from his bearded and olive skinned face, a long white scar starting over ihs right eye and running across his crooked nose to his left cheek a reminder of one of the many close calls he has faced.

b) Strong, physical

SK Hit 2
The person grinned and then punched her square in the face.

The Captain awoke to a splitting headache

and...

Blackwater bio
In truth he is a massive man, well over 6 ft and seemingly as broad shouldered and brawney as he is tall.

c) Again, killing by drowning/sinking:

SK Hit 2
Unlike the other barrels bobbing towards a merchant ship bound for Europe, Angela's conveyance slowly began to sink...most likely from the rocks that had been placed around her feet.

and...

Blackwater bio
its crew sent to the depths below

Clues vs. GreyStone

All SK Hits:

a) Wit, sarcasm, irony, talkative

Greystone bio
She has a wicked Irish temper and sharp tongue to match it.

Against GreyStone:

a) Reliance on weapons over physical strength
b) Non shocking appearance.

Will add to this along the way, I'm hungry right now.

You know you want to accuse us because of our bold text for our bios that is just %&*(*....Yes i have been quiet for the simply fact it has been really hard to be able to much of anything while I am packing up my house to move tomorrow (week notice oh joy) and trying to do everything at work and still do my work.
Why couldn't the bold be someone who has been running their mouth an awful lot lately (Jessop) and just certain about everyone and the way it is. You may have said Rosa for the last lynch but if you will look I believe I said Rosa in my first vote and I know I went against the grain on Cleene because I didn't believe it was him and went with who I thought Rosa.
There as just as many damning things that could be said against you.

Oh and yes Cai has an temper have you ever seen someone who is Irish and you royally piss them off they do have the sharpest tongue. But that is usually when you piss them off.
Lillaanya 15 years ago
First I would like to point out one flaw in your argument against me.

If you actually read that bit in my bio i do not sink the ship merely the crew. ship and cargo plundered and sold

Now for the really damning evidence against our dear Captian Jessop.

SK HIt 1

from the hit
He paid no attention to the slapping noises of water on wood

from Jessop's bio
His ribcage had been replaced with an old oak rum barrel, his left arm was his own flesh and bone that had been grafted onto the barrel using some kind of gluey stuff, while the right was replaced entirely with a wooden socket allowing for all manner of useful attachments; such as a cutlass, musket, a cast iron pillaging rod and a harlot tickler.

from the hit
Rolling the barrel towards the edge of the pier, the stranger gave it a final thump before shoving it over the edge.
from Jessop's bio
His ribcage had been replaced with an old oak rum barrel,

He had a pretty unremarkable childhood until the age of six, when his life was turned upside down after his father--who had been blinded years earlier by an unfortunate squinting related accident--sold John to a Parisian butcher after confusing him with one of his pigs.
from the hit
“Too bad, I forgot to make sure you'd float.”
from Jessop's bio

Squirrel Lips was alone, but he was now captain of his very own ship!
Round 8

The figure rummaged through the cabinets until they found some cigars, probably stolen off some other ship, and some fine port
from Jessop's bio
John grew up in the service of Le Surgeon, who used his adopted son’s unique physical attributes to brew wine which he then sold on for profit

As for the bold reference...I might point out who has been the most outspoken throughout the OOC.

A bit more convincing in my eyes than a bio typed in bold.
lemmy101 15 years ago
Wowwy! That is a lot! Touche! Some are quite good, a lot are super tenuous, like... Shame I can't be bothered to go through the rest of the kills for clues right now (alcohol) but will try to before the vote ends.

btw: I'm the doctor, Binky was the sheriff. You'd be making a huge mistake (if you're Townie, of course) to try and get me lynched, but alas I've done my bit and saw the death of two mafia, so will gracefully accept my fate either way as it's been a fabbo game.

*is gonna be more careful who he accuses in future!
nickenstien 15 years ago
Wow, Lillaanya!

That is an awful lot of text! (not all in bold too! well done!)

Having reviewed it, it looks like a lot of far fetched speculation mixed in with maybe the odd potential clue. (What the hell is that flag thing all about?)

But I think we really need to look at this objectively:

What are the real chances of Jessop being the SK? He was saved very early on in the game. As an SK how on earth would he have managed to deduce who the doctor was, gain their trust, and gain their protection, RIGHT AT THE START OF THE GAME? Very friggin little I would say.

In the hit that Jessop was saved from, there was absolutely no-need for him to need protection in the first place! So in my mind it was a clear case of the mafia making a random strike, and the doctor protecting himself because he had nothing better to go with. (A happy accident if you will).

So I am personally utterly convinced that Jessop is the doctor.
SnowDragon 15 years ago
So if you are the Doc why would you announce it on the chance you didn't get lynched?? Just to make yourself even more of a target or to try to convince everyone you are innocent?
lemmy101 15 years ago
Hey, I've been like some beacon of hittable goodness since day 3, and it hasn't happened yet for some unfathomable reason.

Being the doctor doesn't help me from getting lynched. It does however help me from being SK hit, and basically I'd rather tell it exactly like it is cause then at least when the game's up people will see I spoketh the truth.

I may have told a few porkies through the game, but only with the best of intentions (protecting the sheriff and scaring the mafia into not hitting me in case I'd arranged to be saved)

I think we've got this one won, but I don't want to see us townies kill each other and the SK grab a victory. (Though I imagine the mods would, I'm guessing that kinda thing's pretty rare ) That applies to my accusations too. I suck at clue finding generally and have made no secret of that. I'm just following my heart with this, and if it gets my lynched or hit at this stage of the game, as long as we win ultimately I don't really care!

My only concern is I know 100% if you lynch me then that's reducing the townies chance of winning dramatically! And I know that it must be clear that the chances of the doctor saving anyone else but themselves for the first two rounds are pretty low.
Lillaanya 15 years ago
hmm first you are the sherrif now the Dr? Now that when someone points out clues that could really get you lynched you all of a sudden have a role that could be useful since being the Sheriff does not help us anymore due to the mafia being all down?
lemmy101 15 years ago
No point in protecting the sheriff's identity if he's dead.

Oh and yeah, OBVIOUSLY I've been changing my story and didn't ever before claim I *might* not be the sheriff.

I NEVER said that I was the Sheriff. I just said people had been IDed, which was the truth.

People will make the right choice. I can understand why you two would vote as you did (though it has to be said I *really* seem to have hit a nerve with you)

And *actually* if I do take the fall, that's ok too, as when there's still a hit tomorrow and the game is not finished, people will wise up and axe you. Then townies win anyway. Hurrah!
Blackrabbit 15 years ago
For what it's worth Jessop was not entirely silent regarding his position. Just because he did not choose to tell you doesn't mean he's not innocent.

I knew fairly early on he was the sheriff's foil. You may want to consider changing your vote until such time as there is better reason for lynching him.
nickenstien 15 years ago
I think I need to repeat this one more time, because it is just so glareingly obvious and yet appears to get repeatedly overlooked:

Jessop was not in any way in any kind of fireing-line when he got saved by the doc! He had not been implicated, and in no-way needed any kind of doctor protection. There was no time for him to form any alliances or gain any kind of protection from an unkown doctor. AND YET..... he got saved right at the start of the game!!!!! Think about that, and deduce for yourselfs how this could have come to pass.

Hopefully you will realise that the only sensible explanation for this turn of events, was that he is indeed the doctor and he was protecting himself (as the doctor tends to do when he has nothing else to go on).

He just got lucky when the mafia randomly chose him that night.

If people can not see how obvious it is that Jessop is the doc, then we all deserve to be serial killed for our idiocy!!!!!!

And my second point........ Why would I be defending him so much if I didnt think this is the truth? We _know_ that the mafia are all dead, so there is no reason for me to falsely defend someone in this manner.

Jessop IS the doctor.
lemmy101 15 years ago
Thanks guys! You know you speaketh the truth

And for the record, I pick up on one clue (since I'm shite with clues generally, I got a bit excited about this potentially brilliant clue that had been found, it wouldn't have been hard to argue against it)

It's entirely possible that neither of you are the SK. Problem is, Lillaanya, that you made a counter argument against someone who is unlikely (and in fact not) the SK. I'm willing to accept you may not be either, we don't know anything at this point, but instead of providing everyone with a solid real alternative, you picked on the one with the least statistical chance of being SK just because they tied a couple of clues to you.

It might of been purely because you felt I insulted you about your bio... I didn't mean to, btw, and I apologise I was purely referring to the bold text, not to anything you wrote... I hesitate to use the words "over defensive" as I hate that as an argument for guilt, but hell you reacted to me posting a few clues (and not even JUST at you) with such venom and force back at me it did seem rather suspect. Especially after re-reading the clues it seemed you chucked any little thing you could back at me alone.

I still think the bold thing is a clue to bold text, though.

If you are innocent then sorry, but you should take solace in the fact you're probably gonna be on the winning team anyway, even if you got jipped by one or two of your own near the end ;D
