Although originally portrayed by Gerard Sanders in Iron Man

…it looks like Tim Robbins is rumored to star in the role for the up coming Iron man 2.
Tony Stark’s Dad Cast?
Shawshank star rumoured to play Howard Stark.
by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UK

UK, December 18, 2008 - There’s a rumour (from latinoreview) that Tim Robbins might be set to play Howard Stark (dad of Tony) in a flashback sequence in Iron Man 2.

They report that the scene “is going to set up The Avengers and Captain America films”, and that director Jon Favreau cast a well-respected actor as Howard because it was such an important scene.

They also reckon that bow-and-arrow-wielding hero Hawkeye, plus the evil Soviet spy Black Widow who he falls in love with - are also set to appear in the film.
I couldn’t find the picture of Gerard Sanders as Howard Stark, but I thought with the ’stache he looked like a damn good daddy Stark. We’ll see, I guess.

They really should only get comic fans to report on this stuff. There's a difference between evil and patriotic. That character may have been an enemy, but she defected. Not switching from evil to good, but switching from one country to the other. There was the brainwashing story, but brainwashing isn't the same as free willed evil. Seems unfair that they call the man a hero and the woman evil when he was a criminal when they met and she was doing what she thought was best for her country.

I guess they probably will portray her as evil for the movie, though =/

I've only seen Iron Man 1 1/2 times (that 1/2 time was then stopped and played backwards in the airplane for some reason), so I don't really remember the Howard Stark bit. Was the role played at all in the first movie, or was he just in the magazine props?

Iron Man is shaping up to be the best Comic hero movie "series" there is.

Much to my chagrin because im a Spiderman fan=(

PS. I wonder how long before the War Machine gets into the storyline.

Too bad they fucked up the Spidey movies. The first one was a-fucking-mazing, especially the ending monologue, but 2 and especially 3 was horrible. =/

I loved Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr, although an odd choice, turned out to be perfect as the arrogant genius billionaire weapons mogul turned super hero. I liked Gwenith Paltrow, too.

I kinda figured from the way Rhodey looked at the armor in the first movie that War Machine may be in this sequel.

I've got mixed feelings about the series. Iron Man has generally bored me to hell in the comics, but the movie just kicked all sorts of ass. Can't help but wish they'd put the creative talent behind more interesting source material.

Iron Man will outdo the X-Man franchise, watch. Iron Man is shaping up to be pure win.

and yeah - poor Spiderman, they could have went so many different ways with it. Pisses me off.

I want to watch the old Spider-man stuff now. The really cheesy shit where the webbing came out the back of his huge honkin' wristbands.

When I first heard she was cast as MJ, I was ready to kick someone in the nuts. What the hell were they thinking? MJ's supposed to be hot!
