I can't spell the actual name, but basically it's 'You vs Iphone'?

Didn’t they already do this movie and call it ‘Eagle Eye’?

from what i can tell, people will write generic scripts, sell it to these movie companies, the companies edit it, film it, and try to make a buck.
it just seems that lately there's a lot of these duplicate type movies going on. i mean, look at happy feet and surf's up. sure the story is different but out of nowhere you get 2 comics about penguins? nearly at the same time even.

theres also a pretty generic guideline for movies / stories I think. One of them is computers taking over the world ( Terminator, irobot, 2001(10?), eagle eye, Transformers even. So I cant say its suprising, if its written and acted out well it might actually be good.

Well to be honest, Terminator lead the way for human annihilating artificial intelligence, made back in 1987, and I,Robot again, when originally written in like the 60's, is the founding father of possible future robotic fiction although the movie was chewed up and is 'based' off the actual book. I mean, he created the 3 robotic laws. 2001 - I swear that is a boring movie.
Homicidal A.I. movies are a dime a dozen, and with science fiction being the big thing (when done well), it's a formula that makes money. It must be a race to see who can get the movie done first. I mean really, how many original ideas are there?

hehe yeah, most movies lately are based on books, some of them turn out great ( robert ludlum etc) 2001 ( I agree boring but my dad made me watch it when I was little, lol) and the styles of movies seem to change in popularity.. I guess righ now sci fi is robots and high tech, and prolly itll be aliens again soon, or other planets, or space ships, or something :) hehe.

James Cameron has been working on a sci fi movie for the past 3ish years and it's suppose to release this year, let's hope it lives up to the hype.

It's always somewhat formulaic, and whatever's working typically gets repeated while it's still the "in" thing.
Examples
Movies:
* left out of the movies because it didn't really hit the theaters around the same time as others, so I didn't lump it in as a trendsetter/follower
Examples
Movies:
- Action/drama with stealth planes and WMDs: Executive Decision, Broken Arrow (both 1996)
- Celestial bodies on a collision course with Earth: Deep Impact, Armageddon (both 1998)
- Modernized (or stylized) takes on classic monsters: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade, Underworld, Van Helsing, 30 days of Night, please don't make me include Twil...fuck
- Gritty takes on comics: Not even gonna try listing any of these (obviously includes some of the previous monster flicks)
In particular, Zombies: These have pretty much almost become the next vampire when it comes to popularity, and there is even a vampires vs. zombies movie in the works: House of 1,000 Corpses, House of the Dead, 28 ____ Later, ____ of the Dead
- Unrealistic investigative dramas (note: the unrealistic factor is what makes them fun): CSI franchise, Shark
- Drama with action elements (somewhat similar to above), high stress circumstances (war/investigative), ethnic diversity, mother figure (respectable black woman with straightened and/or lightened hair): Without a Trace, The Unit
- Vampire drama, with comedy/action: Buffy franchise*, Moonlight
- Having a supervehicle with a built-in arsenal of hidden devices and weapons makes its driver/pilot a highly successful crimefighter (even while not in the vehicle?): Knight Rider (1982-86), Airwolf (1984-87), M.A.S.K. (1985-86)
