First black pres, first black pres ....

Anyone else tired of hearing this bullshit?!!!

For fucks sake hes fucking mixed ! As a white mother of a mixed child nothing pisses me off more then to have my son called "black" .. No, its not because his father was a complete duche or hate of the afro americans out there ... I dislike it because people calling him black ignors his white heritage (me, his mother.. what like i don't fucking exsist?..Thanks for the slap in the face, carry on ... ) and only reconizes his black heritage.

When he takes tests like SATs or w/e that calls for race he chooses to tick white & black if two choices are not an option he will tick other. So do other of his Mixed friends so maybe its just not me ?... lol

I know in the really real world outside my little bubble anybody with 1/4th of afro american blood in them are refered to as black. But for serious ... its complete BS.

... wonder how his mom feels about it ... or the rest of the mixed races out there /rants :bang

Sorry little shit bugs the hell out of me.

I agree with you. I have several mixed race friends that got batty if you call them one race over the other. I also totally agree with you on the media going on about the first black pres, ect. Obama himself has called himself mixed, not just black.

My best friend is black. He took a newspaper to his alzheimer's mother and showed her, and said 'we did it mom. we've got a black guy as president' and she was overjoyed. So while mixed people might be pissy about him being called black, the black community is embracing obama as their own. I think it's a fabulous thing. Anyways /hugs!

GO GO BROWNIE TEAM!!!

I'm never mistaken for black, to be honest, even though my father clearly is with his silly salty (once peppered) afro. In fact, he had a gigantic afro back in the day, but he's actually Dominican and black. People ask me, or used to all the time growing up, 'hey what are you?'

'Oh my mother is filipina and spanish and my father is...'

I'd go into this long discussion with them. Annoying. But the past 12-15 years or so I've just narrowed it down to...

'What am I? I'm brown.'

I think people are just incredibly moved by the fact that 200+ years ago black folk could do no better than cleaning the toilet, but now as a nation we've lived up to our 'melting pot' image. I'm moved to tears just to watch CNN and see Obama with 'President Elect' on the podium he's giving his speech in front of him. My afro'd father cried on election night. I cried.

My god, we elected a brownie! :ole

One of my best friends is half white, half african and just calls herself coloured. I just think she's hot tbh, I love dark skin :D

Dont get me wrong i am overjoyed that people have finally looked past skin color of a pres and have felt that man other then white should be in office. Yes is is a big step and yes it has taken way to long for us as a nation to get this far. i only hope we continue moving forward. i understand that in the afro american commuities this is Huge and it should be! I am not thumbing at that but I am just tried of people not refering to him as he is .. mixed. and clearly you read how i feel about it when people call my son black so you can understand my point of view.
I believe that there its a completely different view of the world when you are in a mixed relationship. White couples I know don't understand a lot of the stuff , ways and views I have on random things because they have never been in that situation so their outlook only comes from their view not my altered out looked due to past experiences. Maybe its a bit different to grasp? but anyhow...
I have been unwelcomed, stared at, called names, threatened at gun point, etc just because I believe that love it blind. lol So maybe i am just broken hehe

Tony get mistaken more for Hispanic then mixed hehe So know what ya mean Roz.

I just hope that now that the highest office in the country is held by a man with black heritage that people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson go away. Once that's done, I can't wait till people don't give a shit that the president isn't pure white. Of course, even though the country is willing to have a black or white president, that's no guarantee that any other color will be taken seriously. What I'd like to see is someone of Native American, South Asian, or Hispanic heritage with a heavy accent and strong physical features make it to the top.

Im not racist - But yeah, im getting tired of the whole "Black President" thing like its something special......yeah ok, maybe it is special but jesus christ - let the man do his job for our country like every other president before him and stop putting him on some pedestal because the dude is brown/black/purple/whatever. We dont even know if hes even gonna be any good for us...or if hes gonna be a man of his word with his promises.

Some think hes the second coming of Jesus I swear.

PS. He sounds like The Rock "Do you smellllllllllllllllll what Obama is cooking?!?"
ROzbeans 17 years ago
LOL Yeah, someone in guild chat last night said they hoped Obama was Jesus Christ in his 2nd coming from all the hoopla that is going on about the guy. That guy was australian and it's always interesting to hear the opinion of people abroad. They see the US as a society driven by pop culture, which really we kinda are. I admit, I'm dvr'ing the Today show's coverage of the inauguration, but only because Brian Williams is so handsome, hehe.

Yea I'm pretty over it too. If as a nation we are "over" the black/white issue, or should be, then this should be about more than the color of his skin, right? Wasn't he raised by his white family?

I dunno I just want the fucking media to shut up and let him do his job so we can see if he's going to do any good.
Lessa 17 years ago
I agree with you Adi, it drives me nuts. I wish I felt like the guy was elected because he was the right man for the job rather than cause of his racial heritage and exceptional charisma. I wish the news people would make more points about all of the wonderful things he might do for the country rather than his race or his family's "style" What's really most important? His skin color, really?

With Feb being black history month.. even though he has no american black history.. with his father being from kenya or wherever, I dont imagine much of it will die down til march.. or maybe even til next year.. :(

Just watched the inauguration. I'm hopeful, despite everything.

I want a recording of the quartet that played during the inauguration. Wow... that blew me away. Itzhak Perlman is AMAZING, and alongside Yo-Yo Ma... just, wow. :cloud9

That was written by John Williams, so you know it'll get some sort of grammy lol. It was beautiful though.

Kelefane, I love you to death, but this is one of the most stupid things I think I have ever heard you say.

Well, its all you ever hear man. Its all over the TV and newspaper. It just gets old =p

They need to just treat him like any other President. In the end he'll be judged on how well he did in that area....not judged on his skin color.
Darsa 17 years ago
I'm thinking that it was taken in the wrong way Kelefane; I didn't see anything offensive in what you said, any more than I found Adi's post offensive (which I didn't!)

I agree with you that regardless of what color his parents were, or what words he used in his speech, his ACTIONS are what are going to make all the difference in the world. I hope like HELL that he turns things around in this country; I don't care HOW brown he is! :)

(disclaimer: None of these comments are meant to be racist or derogatory to any person in particular) =p

Unfortunately that will never happen. He'll be judged on so many levels and I would almost assume he's also held up on a higher pedestal than others to prove himself when he should not have to.

To be perfectly honest with you, I'm not raciest, but I've lived a rather sheltered life in the country with all white families. I don't care who is president black, white, purple, green, an alien..whatever. I'm just tired of seeing the whole thing about "the black president" as long as everyone keeps throwing him up there that way he'll never be anything more than that.

He's President Barack Obama .....not the black pres
ROzbeans 17 years ago
I'm brown. That's pretty obvious if you've known me for more than 15 minutes, and honestly the fact that he was elected is something special to me. I say I'm hopeful, but would I have been if McCain had won? No, probably not. I would have been disappointed, personally, but I would have kept on being hopeful. With Obama as president, it signifies a change in our society. As redundant and cliche as the term is, in my heart I'm proud that we elected a black man.

Will he be judged as anything but 'black'. No, he'll go down in history as the first black president, no matter how you spin it. It is monumental. It is something I'm proud of and I don't get tired hearing it. But because he's not white, I have faith in our country in moving forward and being hopeful. I think his strength in character and choices in his cabinet are promising, and if he's smart, he'll ride this wave he's on and use it for good. He's set up to fail, that's one thing you can be sure about. He'll be scrutinized for the next 4 years by everyone, not just the people who didn't vote for him. Right now America is holding its breath and waiting.

I'm waiting too, but with a little bit of hopefulness and yes, pride.

As I said - Im no racist. I just wish this entire "OMG Black President" hoop-la would be over with.

I look at Obama as the President of the United States. I dont look at him as being a brownie or anything like that.

Too many people are caught up in how historic of an event that this is that we have a President who isnt a white man. We have people who are already thinking Obama will be the greatest President of all time and I think its based on his skin color and due to people caught up in the "Black President historcal crap" Fact is, Obama may turn out to be a very bad President and all that hoop-la will end up making the situation look stupid. I hope thats not true and I do hope he turns out to be a good one (Im a Republican btw) - But I do back Obama and I do think that he was the lesser of the two evils that were to be voted for. I didnt like the Republican canidate.
