was wondering if anyone has a tut on a way to sort out your runtime for daz... i'm tired of looking for a good 15 mins for one texture i forgot the name for lol

Once you organize, you'll wonder why you didn't do it in the first place - I absolutely love my runtime. I rename files too. Some merchants have it nested like:

Merchant
- product name
--product name (again)
---Then the actual product

Then they'll do all the main sub folders under their name only - so I just name the merchant folder whatever the product is - easier to find shit.

Once Eve's posts her link, you'll see, but you can only organize the Character and the Pose folders - for things like clothing, it's not that big of a deal; you're not changing anything in the texture folders, so it still loads correctly and you're only changing the top most sub folder in either character or pose folders. I wouldn't change anything nested deeper than that.

Keep in mind, that's at least a couple years old now. I need to do new ones, but the general principle is there. The two folders you never want to mess with, are you Geometries and Textures. Pretty much everything in the Libraries are fair game ie Character-Pose-Prop-Camera-Lights-Hand-Face-Materials. Don't mess with the Morph folder, and I wouldn't mess with the Python stuff either. The best thing for you to do, is to come up with a way of sorting that is comfortable for you, that you will be able to remember where you put things. Holler at me if ya have any other questions hon

This was amazingly helpful. One question I had.. If say I wanted to host my runtime on my pc in the other room and use my macbook to do my dazzing... i could add my pc's content folder as an external runtime? It would map it correctly thru samba?

My runtimes on both machines are disasterly messes and I'm seriously down to about a gig of free hard drive space on my mac and a ton of new stuff to install.

Aww, you know I had to try Eve!

Oh no you don't! Eve is coming over to do mine =P Mine looks like a bomb went off I'm pretty sure there are random body parts lying all over the place!

My main runtime is on an external, with certain things being kept to the actual runtime within my Poser folder like V4 and content that comes with it. Not sure how the shared thing would work that you're talking about but if it's wireless or whatever don't see why not.

As for you two heathens, fix it yourself or you still won't know where shit is! /spanks!

Those of you who use D|S rather than poser, here's an awesome tutorial on organizing your runtime http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=96858 .

If you do use poser for some things, or plan on using it in the future & don't want to reinstall everything, I wouldn't recommend this method, as it involves moving stuff from the pose/props/hair folders into your character runtime.

It really makes things easier to find, and you've got all your textures with the clothing & such.

Since studio 2.2 or one of the updates, Studio has also had the ability to read studio files within poser runtimes, *however* there needs to be a pz2 within the folder with the same exact name for that to work. (So you can't just take your studio mats & toss them into your poser runtime)

In addition to organizing my runtime similar to the pdf linked above, I also have a little .png image with D|S on it, that I pop into the parent folders (what I call the parent folder is where the folder containing the mats resides in... screenshot) of any mats/textures or whatnot that have studio mats in them (What it looks like)
