Oh yeah, they're not doing the voice thing. Or wearing those goofy red outfits. =(

I think they're trying to make them seem more indistinguishible from humans, and the protagonists seem less heroic and more like people forced into their situation by circumstance.

Clunky start but ended with a lot of potential. I think they could have slowed down a bit and developed things more.

I was surprised at the amount of whitewashing going on; in the original series there was actually a respectable amount of diversity for the times. It seems obvious to me to have a latino priest, for example.
Some of the dialogue was a little clunky and I thought the 'hurrr Hot Visitor is hot' scenes were dumb. I agree that it felt rushed, but I think they were trying to get some of the important plot points out of the way so that they could take this series in the directions they are most interested in. Less WWII/Nazi parallels, more current allegory, I guess. Which, frankly, I can live without *shrugs*.
But yeah, I liked it. I -loved- Alan Tudyk's role; I thought I had him all figured out, so the end of the episode totally blindsided me. There look to be some good female characters. I was impressed with how much development the FBI lady was able to put into her scenes - her complicated relationship with her son, her devotion to her work, her bitterness toward her ex-husband. I think it's great that they made her capable and interesting without turning her into an obnoxious always-right superwoman, as so many shows seem to do with their female characters.

I don't follow the white washing part - you mean too white of a cast?
The FBI agent was good. I don't know the actor you mentioned, but I assume it is the pilot from firefly you're talking about? If so I agree. The young priest was a good character. The son and his friend were annoying with their gaga moments.
Overall great plot points, but very rushed in implementation. They simply should have slowed down, and they shouldn't have put major points in the previews - more suspense, more character development before shit goes down. Overall I'm excited I guess, but a bit worried if the director can screw up that much right off.

For New York? Yeah, too white of a cast I think. I might have overreacted when I said whitewashed; I thought the priest in the original series was one of the best characters and seeing him replaced by a young white guy was a little weird for me.
I remain optimistic - I totally agree that things were rushed, but I think it might be an encouraging sign that they are trying to do their own thing with this series. Most of the stuff we plowed through in this episode was covered at length in the original.

Luckily I haven't seen the first series so its all new to me - I have no idea what will happen other than everything they gave away in the previews - which has now all happened.

Syfy is rerunning V the original series and V the final battle if you wanna catch up. It's a pretty good miniseries, especially for back in the day.

The original V was the same way though. They semi jumped right into the action in the very first EP.

Wow, it was sufficiently creepy without being overly annoying. The FBI agent's son was annoying, but his character is pretty much online with the original series character - granted he was an obnoxious, overly sexed teenager who fell right in line with the Visitors because it supposedly made him 'special' and above the rest of his family - overall I thought they did a pretty good job right outta the gate.
