Favorite Classic Novels

In the Red Dawn thread, Pharren brought up Dr. Zhivago, which happens to be one of my favorite classics. I thought it might be nice to hear other favorites from that genre. I joined a book club in my area in an attempt to meet fellow human beings in the flesh. Just as an aside - a single straight male could make a -killing- going to these things. Anyway, I'm growing a little weary of post modern contemporary fiction/literature.

So...The Grapes of Wrath. Loved it - loved the richness of the language, the scale of the journey, the inspiration to stick it to the man when I was done.

Whenever they's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Whenever they's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there . . . . I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad an'-I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry an' they know supper's ready. An' when our folks eat the stuff they raise an' live in the houses they build-why, I'll be there.
